excuse me, but is it so difficult to leave a "virgin" copy of HDloader in a directory of your big hard disk? O.ò

Actually, it's harder than you think. Because most people don't have a "virgin" copy to begin with. Are you using the spread HDLoaderLite? Then you don't have a virgin copy, because that was cracked by "those who remain nameless here" and had their own images injected. Did you happen to buy HD Loader only to find that it wasn't the original pressing, and just a pirated one the shop sold you? Then you're not using a virgin copy because all they did was pressed a hacked version. Are you using HD Advance (the pressed or free MC version?) Then you don't have a virgin copy, because that's just a hacked HD Loader with the text changed, a couple hacks, and new screens inserted.

The only people who could possibly say they have a "virgin" copy are the ones who got it from the original pressing, and they wouldn't be able to use this tool anyways since that version is several times the size this tool expects to apply any fix, as it has heavy protection.

As an experiment, I went and downloaded various versions of the HDL/HDA elfs, and after decompressing the ones that needed it, I compared them to each other in Hex Workshop. Aside from different bytes at offsets 731088 - 2566112 (where the images are stored,) the text changes between HDL and HDA, and various bytes where some fixes had been made, each different version had several bytes changed scattered throughout the file for no reason what-so-ever, and each had completely different bytes between offsets 512-4096, and about a dozen or so different bytes within the first 80.

The purpose of the repair option would be to fix all the changes that had occured to the .elf by the people you downloaded or bought it (in the case of HD Advance or pirate HDL pressings) from before you even got it in your hands.

Your points are valid, I agree with almost everything you said here, but you yourself miss a very important point.

To spread any variant of HDL/HDA in this forum is forbidden.

It doesn't matter if that spreading is in form of a finished HDL.ELF or in the form of a patcher that can take a crappy HDL variant and make it into an 'original'. Because in order to do so the patcher would have to contain major parts of the original code, thus violating the forum rules. Sorry but that's the way it is.

IF there really existed a FREE HDLoader original, then I'd agree with you, that we should ensure everyone use it as the basis for patching. But not by having parts of it in the patcher, as that would be redundant then. We could just post it as a normal download. Unfortunately NO free version of HDLoader exists, or can exist, since even the original infringes on Sony copyrights. So we have to drop that idea.

    Best regards: dlanor

I start a new game in GTA (either 3 and Vice) and, when I save the game for the first time (creating a save file on my memory card), it goes ok.

The problem comes when I do the overwrite. When I do the overwrite, the game locks as soon as I touch the cassete tape on GTAVC or when I enter in my house on GTA 3.
Strange, I don't have this problem with either game. What region is the game and version is your PS2 and how do you boot hdloader.

Hi CrazyC! Well, my PS2 is a V4 NTSC, and the GTAs are NTSC too. I tested another copies and an original disk, but all give me the same problems.

I boot HDLoader by CD, i already tried with HDAdvance but.... same

As I said, some guys in another forum have this problem. It looks that this problem occurs in a few PS2.

My setup is the same, V4 NTSC. FWIW, I boot hdloader from the memory card.

I got the same problem as mp3man. I also have a v4 USA. Note: created a new save on the memory card and immediately tried to load it and the game freezes at the save/load screen. It does it off my original HDloader Disc. It also does the same when running HDLoader patched off the HDD through LaunchELF using the exploit.

BTW: There is a way around the GTA bug I saw it in a compatiblity list somewhere and it works. Something like create a save with the actual DISC then when playing the game from the HD save to another slot and save only to that other slot.
