hdld_srv from hd? –
might be a dumb question but can you run the hdld server from the ps hd? i tried with no luck. just wont boot. it would sure be convenient. anybody ever heard of this?
My guess would be no, because it would probably create an access violation while trying to create a partition when it would be running from a partition itself. Does that make sense? I'll try it, too, and post back.
RE: to my own post above... I made an ISO containing only HDLD_SVR.ELF, IPCONFIG.DAT (because I can't use the default IP settings), and a SYSTEM.CNF fine containing only the following lines:
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\HDLD_SVR.ELF;1
VER = 1.00
VMODE = PAL/NTSC
Lo-and-behold, it booted. So to answer your question sporkit, yes, it will RUN off the hard drive. I'm not brave enough to try transferring a game with it set up this way. I imagine it would work with no troubles.
ha, finally got it to work too. and the hd can copy a game to it while its running which is pretty cool. i was using hdl to copy to copy the iso to my hd in the first place but that never worked. eventually i placed the iso directly onto hd with winhip and all compatability flags on. now it boots great.
on a side note putting the ipconfig.dat file on the iso didnt work. i had to put it on the memory card. most tutorials say its belongs on mc0:/sys-config/ipconfig.dat but the actual path youll see using the ps2 ftp program is /mc/0/sys-config/ipconfig.dat
thanks for the encouragement, i gave up. i woulnt have kept trying unless i knew it was at least possible somehow.
I've been loading hdld_srv from the HDD via Launchelf for ages now. No need to waste 128MB with a disc image, unless you are unmodded and HDL is all you have.
i know u can run it since i have it inside my hdd as we speak
I never thought of it that way. LOL I run it off the HDD too! I too use LaunchElf to boot all my utilities off the HDD. I guess I was only thinking in disc image terms.
i assumed it was possible but was having trouble getting it to load. eventually i just sarted over and now it works great.
