Maybe a little OT, but i was wondering what if we set UDMA mode to 6 (133MB/s, at least in theory) and hard drive doesnt support it? What mode is used then?

Both the IDE controller (PS2 IDE controller don't support anything higher than UDMA4) and the HDD must support UDMA6 before you can set it to that speed or else all you get is corrupted data transfers.

Rather not, i already played with hdl patched to udma6, used some old 10GB Seagate hdd (ST310014A from xbox, UDMA5 max). And it worked, so data corruption is impossible. But i dont know what real mode was used.

    EDIT
    rainrix, they are - 6.MDMA2 (16.6 MB/s), 7 - MDMA1 (13.3 MB/s), 8.MDMA0 ( 4.2 MB/s)

The old HDD will not understand the new UDMA mode (You tell HDD "run UDMA6", HDD controller goes "WTF is UDMA6?") therefore it is likely to discard the speed that you have set.
A better way to test this is to get a UDMA6 capable HDD.

There has also been ideas about doing some kind of a selectable MDMA/UDMA mode (among other things).

any guess when this new patch will be released? cause i saw hdl 0.7e and it looks great. i want to upgrade my hdl elf on my mc, but if the new one is comming soon, then i think i'll just wait for that one.

i also have some newby questions about 0.7e.

    what does the following mean?
    -swap x/o buttons
    -change transfers mode

    what does these modes do?
    -date/timefix
    -disable UAB patch

do i have to patch an unpatch hdl or can i just patch an old 0.7c?

last question: are there any things that are better in 0.7c than in 0.7e? (i'm guessing there's none, since newer ones are ussually better)

i'm so sorry for all the newb questions.

-swap x/o buttons If u press press circle to select thing instead of the X button
-change transfers mode Really like the name said. The speed that the PS2 access the HDD : UDMA is fast (some games wont work with this one and MDMA is slow (some games require this one)

    what does these modes do?
-date/timefix Some game that has real date in need this patch, if not u'll see wrong date in the game
-disable UAB patch This one is only for 1 game, but if it cause conflit with another, u can disable it

do i have to patch an unpatch hdl or can i just patch an old 0.7c? patch an unpacked/unpatch HDL.ELF

last question: are there any things that are better in 0.7c than in 0.7e? (i'm guessing there's none, since newer ones are ussually better)I dont think so while u can disable the ips patch in the new compatiblity menu

Sorry, but I disagree with the unofficial 0.7e. It adds two HDLoader settings. The first setting, only for one game, can be replaced by a patch to the game (Suikoden V). The second setting will mean something only if there are some games which don't work with this patch - and we don't know of any incompatible game.

By and large, I think we don't need more HDLoader settings: in fact, we need less.

MaPomme, I disagree with you about Suikoden V mode. I think it's better to have the possibility to turn on or off than need to have the patched game. If you don't need a patch option, just don't use it. If later the space used by a option in the modes menu is needed, than less important modes can be replaced by better ones. We already have one mode for Soul Calibur 2 and everything is ok...

But I agree about no need for SOTC mode. Looks like it's safe to make it on by default.

Some people reports that some games doesn't support the ips patch for the SOTC. So i think this is the only one that require this option.

UAB, Suidoken etc doesn't affect any other game while there in.
