hdl_dumb crashing with CD games

Hey folks, I'm having trouble getting my CD-based PS2 games to transfer across to my HDD using hdl_dumb. It works fine for the DVD ISOs I've made, but whenever I try to transfer one of my CD-based games across (as soon as I select and open the file) it crashes and displays the following message:

"hdl_dumb - Windows-based game installer for HD Loader has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I've tried different versions of HDLdum(p/b) on different versions of Windows (XP x86, Vista x64, 7 x64) but no luck as of yet. What am I doing wrong? Haven't tried Winhiips, but it's not such a viable option as I'm using a laptop.

I can't copy my games across from the disc drive as it hasn't read anything in years :cry:

I use winhiip on my laptop with a USB to IDE casing to install my games, works great, i have managed to install a few games that way(marvel vrs capcom 2 and sub rebellion) without any issues. Might be worth a try.

That's so strange, i never have any problem installing cd games
with hdldump, use HdlDump Helper GUI v2:

Perhaps your CD rips arent ripped properly, what app did you use to rip them with?

Alcohol 120, and they work fine with PCSX2...

I also don't have many options open for getting a USB to IDE case here. :/

If your computer has IDE ports, you can simply open it up and connect the HDD to the IDE cable. No need for an enclosure.

They would probably run ok in the PS2 as well, but it might be the rip process thats to blame for why HDL dump gives you that error. Try ripping one of your CD games with IMGBurn and see if it installs or gives the same message.

I know Alcohol 120 is a good program, but it might have some incompatibility with HDL Dump. I dont use either, but its a thought to try.

Personally, I think WinHiip is the best way to go. It's much faster than using hdl_dumb or trying to use the HD Loader installer.

Some of my games transferred fine using hdl_dumb but I had some that aborted midway through the transfer process.

I bought a USB -> IDE/SATA adapter for less than $10 shipped. I just plug the hard drive in along with the power cable and connect to the USB. Works great.
