This is a patch to fix the loading of Soul Caliber 2 from hdloader. I don't have the game, but Zer0-X has tested on his copy and he said that it doesn't work with the dual layer patch. Anyway, test it with everything you have and report results.

    Edit: revision

First I patched a clean HDL copy with hdlpatch 0.5c, using the switches "/N /C /B /F /L /D1". I then patched that file using Lunar IPS, first applying hdl_uab2.ips, and then applying hdl_load.ips (the SC2 fix). Next I copied the new ELF onto my USB pen drive, and plugged that into my PS2.

Finally, I booted LaunchELF on the PS2, used it to launch the new HDL ELF from the USB drive, and started "Soul Calibur 2" from the HDD, which worked fine as far as I tested it (just a short practice fight).

This test was made with the PAL version of SC2, SLES_517.99, installed without any patches at all, so the game never even started with any earlier pure HDL patches, but only worked with those using the Toxic core.

Could you try with the dual layer ips patch?

Sure, but not with any dual layer game, since I have none.

What I'll do is to make the same patches as before, but this time also use 'Lips' to apply hdl_dl.ips after the other patches. Then I'll use the resulting HDL ELF to launch "Soul Calibur 2" to verify that it still works.

However, such a test only verifies that the SC2 fix is not harmed by the dual layer patch. You'll need someone else to test the reversed relationship. I'll get back here shortly with results from my new test.

Btw: I assume that the hdl_dl.ips I have, of 558 bytes, is still valid.
Edit: I found another hdl_dl.ips, of 578 bytes, so I tested both.

    Best regards: dlanor

That's the problem case, not the reverse.

Good. I have now tested this, for both of the hdl_dl.ips files I mentioned (558 bytes and 578 bytes respectively). I simply made two ELFs identical to the one I tested earlier, and used 'Lips' to add the hdl_dl.ips files, one to each ELF, as the final patch made before packing that ELF. I then tested both ELFs in the same way as before, and both worked fine as far as I tested them. Each test included startup FMVs, main menu operations, demo battles, and practice battles.

An extensive test of full game compatibility would take much longer, obviously, but I think it is safe to say that the bug which prevented the game from even starting with earlier HDL versions has been cured by your new patch, in a way that doesn't conflict with the other 'new' patches. So hopefully they can all be 'adopted' into the next hdl_patch version.

Btw: I always like to know (at least approximately) what each patch modifies, so if it wouldn't be too complex and time consuming, I would really appreciate a brief explanation of this 'Soul Calibur 2' patch.

    Best regards: dlanor

    Crazyc,

ZeroX is right.I patched your hdl_load after with his hdl_patch 0.6c, SCII loads fine and I played a few rounds with no problem but when I tried to load GT4, just blank screen.Maybe this patch breaks your dual layer patch.
