If I load a psx game disc and it runs the exploit on the MC which happens to be HDDLoader then won't it access the hd and I can play whatever is on it? I was told I still need to do a knife swap but that doesn't make any sense. As I've read so far on various forums this is the only way to run off the hd without a mod chip. There's no direct booting off the hd but ASmentioned above psx to Mc to hs should work, correct?

I have no idea what you are tlaking about or what your goal is, BUT, with the MC Exploit, all you will need to load HDLoader is the HDLoader.elf file in the MC Exploit, and the PSX 1 game and title.db to trigger it. I use keylauncher along with it, and it works great, no mod chips or swaps for me, hardest part is getting the files to the memory card.

Silver, Can you explain this MC/HDloader exploit alittle better or refer me to a tutorial that explains it well...I've never tried a memory exploit before. I do have my PS2 networked right now though so all I really need to know is how to get the files ready to upload (need a list of those file names and what needs to be changed in them and where to put them on the MC) etc...Thanks

I'm trying to do this so I can setup a MC for a friends NON-MODDED PS2 so he can access HDLoader without modding his system

    I read this post http://www.ps2newz.net/forums/showth...ht=HDloader+MC
but had a hard time understanding the parts past setting up the network (which is done)

I cant see a clear purpose of what are you trying to achieve. However, if your goal is to access your HDD in your situation I suggest the following. Make a ISO of ps2menu-k, unload it through hdl_dump or WinHIIP, then run HDLoader and launch ps2menu-k you just uploaded. Then you can access your HDD from ps2menu-k. Knife Swap is totally avoidable once you have exploit on your MC unless you want to play some game backups or imports that unsupported by HDLoader.

Sorry for my lack of clarity, I should have explained what I wanted to do rather than how I thought it should be done. This is exactly what I wanted to be able to do, thanks for all your help.

I have another question on this topic, and since I am a newbie, I hope someone can explain it to me. I have a modded ps2 with HDloader installed on the MC.. everything works great.
My cousin bought a new PS2(v10 not slimline), so it remains unmodded. I would like for him to be able to use HDloader as well without having to get his PS2 modded. I can transfer the hdloader to his MC, but how do I boot off of it, since there is no Dev mode?

    Thanks

You would have to install the "MC exploit." Try searching that on this forum and you will find a lot of information on it. I believe it's similar to Dev. mode, except you need a particular ps1 disc to set off the exploit.

BTW, I've heard Monkey has a nice guide: http://lookatthemonkeys.com/html/ps2tut.html
I personally don't use ps2-menu or keylauncher so my way is slightly different from Monkey's, but the concept is still the same.

Thanks dreamcaster911, but I was under the impressions that the exploit it needed to transfer the hdloader to the mc of an unmodded ps2. I can already do that using my modded ps2. I wish there was a guide for a person who is using an unmodded PS2 and has the cracked/patched hdloader on his mc.

My PS2 is unmodded. There is a HUGE round-about way of getting it on there. Since your PS2 is already running HDLoader you are halfway there. Here are the basic high-level steps:

    1) Get a cheap PSX game from the flea market or from the back of your car that you never play.

    2) Find its disc ID (It's usually something like SLUSxxxx.xx

    3) Find you a copy of titleman.exe and hack the title.db to work with that disc ID

    4) Install EXECTFTPS on YOUR ps2 if you have not already

    5) Upload the hacked title.db into the BADATA-SYSTEM folder located on your FRIEND'S memory card. Also put HDLOADER.ELF and whatever .IRX files are needed to run it (too lazy to see if there are any) on the memory card. Rename HDLOADER.ELF to BOOT.ELF. Also put in a SYSTEM.CNF file that points to BOOT.ELF

    6) Give your cousin that PSX disc and his MC back as a birthday present. The PSX disc will trip the BOOT.ELF.

That's pretty much just a summary -- If your friend does not know what he is doing, I wouldn't give him a copy of PS2Menu or Keylauncher or anything else that will end up messing up his MC or HDD.
