Even though i am new to ps2 coding, i have been contemplating these for a while. Every has been saying that it is impossible to install and run psone games on HDL/HDA, due to tha fact that tha software boots up tha ps2 BIOS and not tha from tha psone's.

    3 Theories(they will require a modchip)

    1. A PSone version of HDL/HDA
could someone make an ISO that boots tha psone BIOS and runs HDL/HDA?(when i say someone, i am not asking anyone to do it for me, i am asking if it could done. A simple yes or no do)

    2.PSone Emulator
PGEN Concept- i assume that anyone that reads has heard of SEGA Gen/Master system emu for tha ps2. Anyway since tha ps2 doesn't have tha exact same hardware as tha psone(and original) it emulates the psone from tha get-go(start) i was thinking that somebody could make a psone emu that reads ISOs for tha ps2 on the backbone of the PGEN emulator because it can access tha ps2 Harddrive and USB ports. That way anyone that has a computer and Wiinhip can install psone games to their simply by typing tha name and SLUS ID.(if somebody does try this, please make a better SNES Emulator. )

    3. Finally, an HDL/HDA patch
Every time i browse tha net there is a new HDL/HDA patch released. What i was thinking was that someone could make a patch to the software that adds a new feature/menu to the that says "Boot PSone Game". i know, i know that HDL/HDA CAN'T PLAY PSONE GAMES!!! BUT.... I was thinking that this menu would have that ability to reboot the console, boot tha PSone BIOS, and mount the PSone ISO so it would run as if it were runing off the cd (original/backups) like if it were Deamon Tools or something.

I myself will be constantly working/researching on these theories. If someone is interested in this, please,PLEASE, e-mail me your findings/opinions/other stuff related to this matter. Thanx

I thought it was impossible due to the HDL using an exploit in the PSOne driver. That is, HDL does a overflow or something of the sort to the PSOne driver and such. I forgot, it's been awhile. I'll dig up some old info later on and continue then. Someone else care to take the stand?

PS1 games run on the IOP where hdloader runs. They also directly access the drive registers so there is (probably, i admit to only looking into this a little) no way to put the hdd driver in the middle.

the IOP is the essentually the r3000 from the PSOne... therefore like crazyC said you couldn't access the HDD from the EE to run it.

Some of the software developers wanted to use the EE on their PSOne games when the system was announced (for PS2 that would allow larger and of faster level designs) but Sony said that the system couldn't function this way.

I've thought that writing an emulator for the EE would be possible. But even if it could be done, most of the Homebrew (if not all of it) runs from the IOP. I'm not even sure anyone really knows how to program on the EE. I do know that the PS2dev kit has libs to program the EE, but I'm not sure that a good PS1 Emu could run on it. If someone could handle a EE emu that still can use some of the translations from the IOP I'd see this possible, but I doubt it could be done....

I'd love to see someone prove me wrong though....

the ps2's io is the ps1's proc etc etc...but i'm curious if the ps2 isn't powerful enough to emulate the ps1 anyway. i would think NOT, since things like snes emulation seems hard, but wasn't there a dreamcast version of bleem! ?

The EE is just a more powerfull and expanded version of the IOP so it should run PSOne code just fine if someone should code the needed pieces to get the R3000 code run on R5900.

And since they're from the same family the CPU opcodes don't need to be emulated as is the case with SNES emulation.

    first,
    everyone thanx for tha input

    second,
under tha name says "rook" meaning rookie so ... almost every thing posted just went right over my head. though i caught some of it, i mostly research and barely code anything myself. so tha only way i will be able to get any real info is if some would respond like this.

"YOU CAN'T DO THIS BECAUSE THIS WON'T LET YOU!!! Dumbass."

somewhere in the range of that.

This is more difficult then you might expect. Exception handling, interrupt handling, hsync and vblank timing and memory mapped IO all need to be delt with.

Its because of too much work in programming and mumbo jumbo.
