Ok a few things..Dump/Dumb are for network transferring. USB is not network.

Second..Why would you use an external HDD for games? The PS2 can't use it.

Do you mean a USB Enclosure? If so, that works, but you need to use WinHIIP, not HDL Dump.

of course Dump/b works when the HDD is connected to the PC directly.
I use a Firewire enclosure and it works beautifuly (if i can recommend "Lordbogami Frontend", it's marvellous!).
    Later,

Hmm, when I tried DUMB that way I had problems. I don't know why anyone wouldn't just use WinHIIP though, it seems to be much better based on my use of both apps.

Okay, I think I was a bit confused, I just modified my PS2 and now I need a better method to xfer games, but I have a really old computer running linux and usb 1.1 so even if it is slow I will still have no choice, I just want to use what I have, I thought hdl dump was the application that allowed you to hook up the PS2 drive to your pc via ide/usb/firewire and dump directly in, any insight would be quite helpful.

    Thank You!

i would just transfer games over the network so you dont have to goto the hassle of taking your harddrive out of your ps2. since you have a mod its super easy. burn ps2link to cdr, boot it up and then use InLink/xLink to run any .elf you want.

    1. run ps2link on ps2
    2. run ps2menu .elf to transfer ipconfig.dat to your memory card's SYS-CONF dir
    3. run hdl_dump .elf
    4. run Lordbogami's Frontend to hdl_dump .73
    5. install games

now of course its not that easy, but use this forum's search function to find the details of each of those points i listed above.

just noticed you're using linux.. i'm not sure if theres a program like InLink/xLink to send .elfs to your ps2 over the network. i guess you could burn a cd with ps2menu, and then throw on the cd the .elf's you want and transfer to your MC, then use launchELF to run them
