I've been trying to work on a way to get from HDL back to the BOOT.ELF without any coding knowledge. If anyone has any light to shed on the subject, please do. So here's what I've done:
I made an iso of Launchelf (3.41), and Winhiip'd it to the HDD.
Now with using Launchelf from HDL, it will load the presets from the MC, however you can't run any ELF's from any partition. The only ELF's you can run are on the MC. Even running the PS2browser from the HDL Launchelf will freeze.
Now from the BOOT.ELF, you can run ELF's from the HDD, MC, etc. However, if you go back into HDL, it will freeze after you try to run any game, uncluding the HDL Launchelf.
The other issue is, from the BOOT.ELF after running it from the HDL Launchelf, if you run Launchelf from the MC or HDD, it will freeze if you try to run the PS2browser.
I have tried enabling mode 3 on the Launchelf partition, and same results. So far, this is the only way to get back to the BOOT, but once you do that, no gaming unless you reset.
    Anybody have any ideas?

This problem is due to the fact that HDL interferes with the system functions that load IRX drivers. That interference is a necessary part of HDL functionality, as it must be able to force its own drivers to remain both in storage and usage, when games request IOP reset and the reloading of all IRX drivers.

The only way to 'kick out' HDL completely when LaunchELF is started that way, would be to have code partly similar to HDL loaded before HDL is started, and capable of interfering with HDL itself. This is not the sort of thing that really belongs in LaunchELF, as I see it, and would demand too large effort to develop and debug, compared to the small gains offered.

Damn, well at least I can get back to the boot.
Damn I need to get me v9 with dvd remote
Wait, I still don't get why it won't load a game the second time, since the IRX drivers are still loaded in the RAM. I hope future versions HDL run an IOP reset the reload the IRX drivers. But there's not any more development on HDL because of the upcoming PS3 huh.
