So i've installed the network adapter as well as a 10 GB hard drive (the one out of the X Box) to my PS2. Tested it out, and it works. (As far as the ELF programs can tell anyway)

My question comes in with having the file browser recognize said hard drive. I saw a friend (who was using Sony's official 40GB) simply navigating save folders and whatnot through the file browser, a rather nice and clean process. What about those of us who are using not so standard hard drives? Is there anyway for me to get a nice GUI in terms of managing saves between MC and HDD? Any programs out there written to mimic the file browser if nothing else?

I was reading some patch notes on the PS2OS and it looked like there was something similar. (I haven't had time to check yet) Is this the case?

I'm not sure but the HDD Utility Disc will only work on standard IDE HDDs if they're bigger than 20GB.

Plus, you'll need a modchip with AUTO ATAD Patching to make it recognize the HDD at the PS2 boot.

The bigger than 20GB thing i could understand, since the idea of the disc is that you're using only Sony's hard drive.

I don't quite understand the need for the ATAD patching though. Mostly because it's not needed when you're using sony's brand hard drive, why would you need it otherwise? (i'm running a pnp key and swap magic right now for my "mod".)

The official HDD kit (with Final Fantasy) has a different firmware and ATAD.IRX file. The HDD Utility Disc 1.10 (browser 2.0) will only work if it finds it on the HDD. If it does not find it, the browser 2.0 won't boot.

The Modchips with AUTO ATAD Patching have the ATAD.IRX on their firmware, and probably bypasses the checking, making it see the correct ATAD.IRX, even if the HDD is a standard IDE with different ATAD.IRX.

And it won't go over 128GB or 143GB either...

If i remember correctly, you can download patches or whatnot (if you're using the atad emulation) that allow 48 bits. Thus, larger than 120 GB. :3

Could be horribly wrong though. ^^

Yes you can use bigger HDDs, but i think the official browser can only "see" 120GB as maximum.

If you format it using 48bits, it will created a 120GB partition and then another partition with the rest of the HDD size. (not sure if this is correct)

Alright. Sorry to bring back this long dead topic, but i've seen numerous sites online with "ATAD" patchers. I don't suppose it's at all possible to patch the HDD Utility disc with a different ATAD file? (ie to accept different hard drives)

Both my modchips have Auto ATAD patching, so how do I see my HD in the Sony Browser with Memory Cards and such?
