HDD Partitions on 250GB HDD
HDD Partitions on 250GB HDD –
11-06-2006,09:10 AM
Hi,
I recently got a 250GB HDD for my PS2 and am looking to put a few partitions on it so I can use it to back up my work from my PC and also games & music without worrying about messing the drive up as I keep deleting and putting on new work. I tried using the DMS HDD format tool but that only supports the drive up to 127GB. Anyone know how I can use this properly on my larger HDD?
PS: Am using a v4 PS2 with Messiah chip. I also have a copy of HD Advance but now that the drive has been formatted with the DMS tool I can't get the formatting from that onto the HDD to recognise the max size

Just format it in windows, then pop it in your ps2 and run hd advance to reformat it. All partitions are in the playstation format and cant be seen by your pc. Make all partitions with ULe for ps2 game saves or ps2 video and elf storage.

Cheers, was able to go round my mates house and plug the HDD into his PC there. Is there anything I can use to do this kind of stuff over the network connection in future as I only have a laptop? What programs do I need to transfer files to/from my PS2? Tried FTPing stuff but fails with bigger files...

Stebo the easyest way to do this is to run Uluanch and make new portians throu that.. Then use a USB stick and put all of your computer crap on that and tranfer it over to your PS2 HDD..
I have a 2Gig Stick and have tranfered files back and forth for a while now.. Found it alot easyer then using any FTP client...
But if you really want to FTP stuff back and forth throu your Labby and your PS2 then your going to need a FTP client on your Labby like FlashFXP plus use Ulaunch on the PS2 side.. You can tranfer files that way as well.. But its buggy to say the least doing it that way...

Thanks scooter will give that a go tonight. Is there a guide somewhere on how to use uLE for creating partitions? I can only ever find update histories for it.
Are there any alternatives to using an FTP client (am using Fliezilla at the mo). Is there something like PFS explorer that works via the network adapter?

Stebo-Im sure other FTP clients can be used.. But I for one never used anything other then FLASHfxp.. So I really cant anwear that for ya.. But I do not see why they shouldent work...
as for the uLE.. The newest version (4.06 or somthing) can make portians on the fly just like the DMS formatter.. I havent used it yet.. But all you have to do is push R1 for the list to come up and you will see somthing that says "creat portains"...
I my self have used DMS to make portains and have no proublems on my 250Gig Maxtor drive.. But give it a shoot with the Ulaunch program first...
The external HDD encosure would be a good idea as well.. But all it takes is for the USB to get yanked out of the PS2 or even the computer to corruped the HDD..
Let us know how things turn out..

Finally got round to trying the stuff in the last few posts. Downloaded the latest uLE and used the HDD Manager with great success, and after testing my ftp connection with a few files, gave in to digging out my usb stick and using that instead (cheers for the tip scooter - didnt realise it would be about 5x faster).
Still have a couple of questions though that I cant find answers for on the forum:
-There is a post somewhere on this forum (cant find it at the mo...) that says you cant expand a partiton above a certain size before its full, and that becomes unstable at about 20gb. Now the uLE creates partitions up to 32gb. How stable are these and can these be expanded to any size?
-Is there a way to hide certain parts of the HDD when viewing it in SMS? Theres a few files that start __ and a couple of partitions that ideally I would like to have hidden when browsing the HDD for media. Is there at least a way to display the partitions in alphabetical order?
