What are the current draw ratings for the 12v and 5v rails for your 750GB HDD and that old 40GB HDD?
Maybe something's wrong with the new NA, and the HDD isn't getting enough power to spin up (Properly).
(Or something's wrong with your old NA, and the disk somehow gets enough juice to spin up and run
)
