    Sony Playstation 2 model SCPH-70002 (satin silver)
    Matrix Infinity 1.82
    HD-COMBO

    I hired a professional to do the soldering of the modchip and the HDCOMBO ribbon cables, he says he checked all the solder points twice. The mod chip seems to be working correctly, the HDD powers on and makes the same sounds as those in my PC.

    So I'm assuming on the hardware side of things, everything is correct.

    I have created a patched HDLoader .ELF as follows:

    Unzip hdlpatch_0.8b.zip and Clean_HDLoader.zip to the same directory.

    From the commandline, I create BOOT.ELF:
    HDLPatch_0.8b /N /C /V /F /A Clean_HDLoader.ELF BOOT.ELF

    I then create a textfile called INSTALL.CNF:
    HDLoader 1.0
    mc0:\BOOT\HDLOADER\BOOT.ELF
    _MKDIR mc0:\BOOT\HDLOADER
    _COPY cdrom0:\BOOT.ELF;1 mc0:\BOOT\HDLOADER\BOOT.ELF

    Another file called SYSTEM.CNF:
    BOOT2 = cdrom0:\BOOT.ELF;1
    VER = 1.0
    VMODE = NTSC

    I burn these three files using Nero as a Mode 2/XA disk, since Nero won't allow burning mode 2 without audio tracks, I put some random album on there as well.

    Booting with this disk supposedly installs the patched version of HDLoader to the memory card. (Is this supposed to show up as an icon in the Memory Card Browser?)

    Anyway, HDLoader boots, but displays the following error dialog:
    "HDLoader could not detect a hard disk drive connected to your PS2. Please ensure that you have connected a hard disk drive according to the instructions found in the manual and on the HDLoader website. Please visit <censored> or consult your manual for more information."

    I have tried the following drives:

    Western Digital WD400 (40 GB) -- This drive works for about half the people that try it, according to the PS2 Hard Drive Compatibility Chart
    Quantum Fireball CX (13.7 GB) -- Someone using the 20 GB version used it with Toxic OS.
    Maxtor Fireball (30 GB) -- Not listed, but almost all the Maxtor HDD work with PS2.

    I have tried burning a HDLoader 0.7c ISO compiled by someone else, but that didn't work at all, I get the red screen of doom when I try to boot with that disk.

    Anyone else have a working HDCOMBO with this model?

    The latest MI firmware is 1.88, not sure if it's needed for PSTwo HDD compatibility, but you should upgrade.

    Your INSTALL.CNF looks wrong too, the DEV1 boot path is mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF then on boot you should hold R1 to boot it. Make it look like this:

    HDLoader v0.8b
    mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF
    MD mc0:/BOOT
    CP cdrom0:\BOOT.ELF;1 mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF

    That's only if you're going to use Infinity Manager to copy it to the memory card, you could also just use uLaunchELF's filebrowser. Don't forget to boot with the triangle button pressed to load the Infinity Manager.

    Try using "CDGENPS2 3.1" to create a BIN/CUE or ISO instead of Nero then burn the image with ImgBurn (the same people that made DVD Decrypter).

    PM me if you need more help.

    The HD combo that you have bought may have problem,return to seller and refund your money!the HD combo is copy the technique from the HD CONNECT,but the manufacturer never appreciate HD CONNECT,even dishonored HD CONNECT!they always say HD CONNECT unstable,work without HDD signal led(this function can be anabled if buy a HD draw with HD signal led),can not copy game to HDD directly on console,but all they were said is a fraud.
    HD connect works on my console properly and very stable,I using a HD draw with the HDD led ,so I can see the signal of the HDD reading and writing.even I can copy games to HDD from console directly

    Yeah, and having a HDD just laying around next to the PSTwo looks awesome I bet.

    Take your garbage elsewhere.

    Did you check jumper settings?

    In PS2 HDD has to be master, not CS
