Hmm... clicking noises in a hard drive usually happens when the system in the drive is having trouble locking on the servo, causing the actuator to hit the crash stops while it looks for data or starts up. Eventually your platter would damage and your drive would send out inconsistent data. You should back up your games to another hard drive before that one complely fails.

FYI: I too was getting this HDD click when my PS2 would power up. It concerned me. I'm happy to report that after installing the Sony HDD Utility V1.10 software, my HDD no longer clicks when I power up.

However, you have to have a DMS3 chip installed to enable ATAD patching in order to install the Sony HDD tools to a non-sony HDD.

    Hope this helps.

I have a new Hitachi 60 GB and the first day it make this noise, so that mean that it will fail because it don't use $ony's drivers/tools ?

Don´t think so, its normal for a HDD in a PS2 to click once at startup.
My original $ony HDD does it too, for now over 3 years without any problems whatsoever.
    Don´t worry.
