HDD Loader NooB Thread
Ok, I know nothing on the topic and need a bit of help. Basically, i've heard all over the forums about the hdloader and direct booting ps2 games right off the hd (just like an xbox)
So, how would I get everything setup and installed? Do I need a normal IDE hd and is an hdloader an actual program that runs on the ps2? How do you upload ps2's on the HD? do you just pop it in your pc and transfer iso images over? do you need a modchip for this?
Basically a small tutorial would be great. If it's been discussed before, can someone direct me to the post?
Thanks :)

I also have a n00b question :banghead: I have been reading about everything but want to make sure I read this right. You can hook up the ps2 HD to PC and load a dvd9 game onto it then play it on your ps2? Also do you still need the HDloader doing this?

go to hdloader dot com for more infos.....on HDloader....
as for the other question...you don't need hdloader to load games onto your HDD...but before you could load game onto your HDD to make it work, you need HDloader to FORMAT your HDD...as for dvd9..many people have got it to work so I'm sure it'll work...go to the official hdloader site if yall just want to know what it is...after you read it and still got more question...come back here....

it shouldn't be a problem...I got 2 HDD and both of my ps2 can played it....

thx agee.
I read about it and now know that a network adapter is needed to connect the hd to the ps2.
My question now lies on how to get the games on the hd? do you just run a cable from the back of the ps2 to your pc and just transfer the files over? can this be done wireless?
thx

HDLoader itself will copy games onto the HDD (provided it's in the PS2). You can also hook it up to your computer as a slave and use dumper programs (HDL_Dump, for instance) to copy games. HDLoader will NOT copy DVD9 games but people have done from PC.
You don't FTP like XBox though, fyi.

Thanks Matt
Just wondering, how does hdloader copy the games for you? What do I get when I buy hdloader? on the site, it looks as though you just get a cd.
Only thing I can think of is you put the ps2 disk in and run hdloader which copies it to the hd? am i close?
Thanks

HD Loader needs to be loaded from the CD every time you want to use the hard drive. Basically the set up is as follows
Hard drive plugs onto the network adaptor which then plugs into the PS2
Load the HD Loader disk and format the drive
remove the HD loader disk and insert the game disk you want to transfer to the hard drive
Select install on the menu on screen
Wait for disk to be installed
Remove game disk
You game is now backed up to the hard drive. To play the game you insert the HD Loader disk, let it boot up and select the game from the menu on screen

Thanks a lot Gary, it all makes sence now. Perfect explanation.
For the final and last thought I had in mind.
Im guessing the hdloader has nothing to do with trying to copy backups to the harddrive, meaning the system must still have a modchip in order for it to write a backup to the hd.
Other than that, thanks for all the help

You know i think a tutorial is in order for this.
