Ok, here's what I see. In FlashFXP I see all the files in my +AVI partition. I highlight all and it says ~10gb of files. So I go into the HDD Format Tool, and I go to resize the +AVI partition, and it says the partition is currently 2560mb. That correlates to 2.5gb. This makes no sense at all. So I go into my windows calculator, and I want to make the partition 15gb. So I do 15*1024 and I get 15360. So that's what I set it to. Now I'm seeing the stats at the lower part of the format tool, and it says:
    FS Size: 3072mb
    FS Free 25035mb
Can someone tell me how to translate these numbers into real MB and GB?
    btw i'm working with a 300gb maxtor.

Or is there a way for me to tell the capacity of the partition outside of using the Format Tool?

You can try using "PS2 PFS Explorer" while your PS2 HDD is connected to your PC as a slave.

    You can get it here:

    Information about it here:

I just tried to use DMS Format Tool to format my hard drive. Tried with two different drives, and each time it said HDD not connected, even though I could hear it spinning. Is this a definate sign that the hard drives are not compatable, or perhaps DMS just doesn't see it?
Or maybe my drives are dead, after my whole computer fiasco. ugh
Any other format programs I can use off of CD?

EDIT: Just looked at compatability chart, and it says one of the drives works. The other one isn't listed, but it is from 1998 so thats understandable. I thought the first drive was out of my computer when it fried... but now I'm not so sure. I have no other way to test the drive other than in the PS2.

Can you explain why you can't just use WinHIIP to format the drive, or at least test it in a different computer, like the one your using right now? This would eliminate the ps2 hardware and software as the problem if it can't even be seen or formatted for regular computer use.

Well my computer decided to fry itself, so now I have nothing. Right now I'm on a computer in lab at school. Unless I get some bolt cutters to chop off the lock thats on the back of the computer case, I can't hook my hard drive to it. I'd try to convince a friend to let me open their computer, but they're all so tied up with midterms and projects right now its near impossible to even talk to them let alone barrow the use of their machines.

Try changing the jumper settings, should be set to master.

Yeah was set to slave as first cause I wasn't thinking. But realized and switched it to master. Still no luck. Looks like I'll just have to wait until vacation and use computer at home to try and format with winhiip.
