04-18-2005,05:04 PM
Im using the "special copy" of HDA and for some reson when I try to convert my backup games to my HD it says Bad Disk Error. Yes, I have a mod chip installed. Ive tried all of my backups cd and dvd and only retail games will convert. My friend has teh same copy of HDA and it lets him convert backups no problem. Any suggestions?

By Special Copy, you mean that you have it burnt to a disk right?
If that's the case: for me when I need to boot PSX games and I believe CDRs, you need to hold the reset button down to boot them. When you do this, you disable the chip, thus you are unable to backup burned games. When I needed to put my backup disks on my HDD, the only way I figured was by transferring using the computer. At least that's my case, most likely that's what is happening with you. Transfer the backups to the HDD via the computer IDE or FTP or IDE to USB, however you choose. Any more questions, just ask, I'll try and help. Good Luck

I dont understand why it wont read the burned discs after loading up HDA. Is it just the way that particular chip works, in that it cant run/read copied dvds unless its from the first bootup? Any good ftp tutorials you can recommend?

How are you loading up HDA? MC Exploit? When you hold down the Reset button to boot up CDR and PSX games (I Believe you need to do this with CDR....I forgot....maybe not....), you disable the modchip, thus unable to play or read backups. I don't really know how to do the whole FTP thing, I mainly transfer via IDE (Although now I switched to USB 2.0.... easier, but slower....).
Try this site: http://lookatthemonkeys.com/html/ps2tut.html#C2
That should help you. Search around too, you're bound to find more info. Good Luck

well I know the chip is working because the HDA is on a burned DVDR. I switch on the ps2 to standby (red light) and press eject, insert game, press eject or rest to close tray and boot the game.
Edit
i just rechecked the actual error message is 'Error bad disk was inserted'

Ok, just checked and you don't need to disable the modchip. You're right.
Hmm... I've only booted via the MC Exploit which made me disable the chip. That's why I had to IDE/USB the games. At the moment I can't think of anything. I'll try and think of somethings, but no promises! Sorry I can't help you much.
I believe I had that error when I tried to put my backups in when I disabled the chip, but in your case the chip seems to still be working.
You're not using the official HDD right? Just curious.....
