Is it alright if we put our console with HD and NA attached, in a vertical position ? :)
I just bought a new HD MAXTOR 80 gb, when I formatted it using winxp installer, it recognized 78160 mb, is it normal or not ?

yes, the vertical position is just fine (for me anyway), and why did you format with windows xp if you're going to use it in your ps2 if it was brand new? HDL (along with many other PS2 tools) will do that for you ... and as for your free space which you noticed is less than 80gigs, this occurs when using space to create a file system along with the fact that most manufacturers actually use 1000MB=1gig instead of the known 1024MB ... you'll have less than you see now once you format with HDL (if thats what you're using) from the way it creates its file table ... hope this helps
man I dont like the fact that there is a little space on either side of the hd. the official sony hd must come with some rails or something so it fits more snug. Im gonna make some rails one of these days
The official HDD does indeed come with rails.
Well, doesn't matter for me, my hdds are outside my ps2 ;)
I swear, when will HDD makers stop with this nonesense and start counting by the standard 1024MB. Especially with HDD getting bigger and bigger. That's a 9GB waste on a 350GB HDD.
Anyway, though my PS2 is not place vertically, one of my PC's HDD is place that way without any problem. But it should defend on the HDD. Some HDD don't fit as well as the others on the expansion bay. So if it's looser than the other, then I suggest horizontally. Because you may have some problem with the power connection (HDD tipping down with the weight).

Vertical of horizontal doesnt matter with a hddQuote:

Also in vertical the drive probably wont fit as well as it should, and may rattle and unplug itself
All in all i would definetly recomend horizonal any day
Is there a way to make our own rail ?
