    Hello.
I want to ask something that is possible it is a foolishness, but good, I need that somebody helps me to clarify this doubt.
I have a console V12 with the dead laser (I suppose this because it doesn't want to read any disk). If I connected it a HD (using HD connector or HDcombo), and install modchip with DEV2, could it work without necessity of the laser?. Logically it would have to make the whole formateado process and does it copy of the Hdloader in another console and the games could copy them from the PC.
Tell me, you that have more knowledge on the topic, if this is possible.
Thanks in advance. Sorry for my english.

If this a fat ps2 (old type) the laser ain't dead, it just needs corrected or cleaned and yes you can bypass the laser by starting programs (hdloader) from mc or hd when using certain modchips

What you want is possible, but not quite as you planned it.

The boot record for DEV2 can not be set by a PC, as far as I know. The normal method is to boot a special CD-R disc in the PS2, an option not open to you. You'd have to let someone else do it in another PS2 with a working laser, and that might not work right, as your own mod-chip should be 'informed'...
(It might work, or it might not. I never heard of anyone testing this.)

DEV1 booting is probably more useful, as it allows a complete boot setup to be carried on a memory card (so you can easily back it up too). But that too can be hard to get started without a working laser. Again you will need the help of some other PS2 user, able to run homebrew software, to install the needed files on your memory card. The big difference is that this DEV1 method is guaranteed to work, as opposed to the DEV2 method.

    Best regards: dlanor

Here's something that I wouldn't do because of the dificulty of it, but someone with a dead laser removed the dvd drive from his slim and installed a laptop hdd in its place.

Ok, thank you for the answers, but I need to clarify the following thing.
    to dianor:
What does it mean, as your own mod-chip should be ' informed'?
I believed that when the console is woke up with a modchip, selecting the option DEV2, it automatically boot from the HD. Is this incorrect?

    to Bootlegninja
The link is broken. I believe that I would be interested to see that thread

This is what had in my mind when I posted the question:
    1) In the PC
    a) Format the HD using WinHiip or other tool.
    b) Install games

    2) In another console with HDcombo:
    a) Install the formated HD
    b) Install HDLoader using the DEV2Installer.

    3) Install HDCombo with the formated HD in the console that has the dead laser, and matrix infinity or other modchip with DEV2 mode.
I want to have the certainty that this works before making it.
