I own a slim ps2 v12 and I planned to install an hd combo to it, however, finding a seller is proving extremely difficult... So I came across this other product caller HD pro. Is this the same as hd combo? how does it compare to it?

They claim that it works with SCPH-7XXXX and SCPH-90XXX consoles, which is very suspicious since as far as I know that would include consoles that are not v12/13 and those don't have IDE soldering points...

Right. The HD Pro is an case that you can connect an IDE-HDD in it, and makes the slim to an phat.
The package includes the ModBo-chip (custom firmware), Adapter for IDE-HDD, external Power-supply for the HDD and the case.

And the HD Pro works only with an ModBo-chip (special firmaware). There is an adapter soldered with the ModBo, and from adapter it goes to an IDE-Adapter that is in the case. So itīs support the SCPH90xxx consoles.

    HD Pro

    That is the case....

And here is Modbo (blue) soldered with the adapter (little green) and goes to the IDE-adapter for HDD (big green)....

The HD-combo you must solder to the mainboard of v12....

I see. Well since I have a v12 with FMCB in the memory card, I have no need for a modchip... I can't find the HD-combo anywhere and I've seen many people in the net asking for where to get it so I guess nobody can either... The HD Pro in the other hand has a lot of resellers, so I'm wondering, is there a way to install the HD Pro in my v12 without the modchip so that it would function exactly like the HD-combo?

Also if anybody here knows where can I find an HD-combo in stock I would much appreciate it.

Thanks, those seem like functional alternatives. But they don't seem anywhere near as complete as the HD-combo... They don't include any case to integrate the hdd with the ps2 neatly, no power supply, etc...

Also, I've read the thread about the SATA HD connect and it seems that people who bought it claim that it doesn't work on 48bit mode for drives bigger than 120gb. Can anybody confirm this?

EDIT: I have an idea: what if I bought the HD pro and the IDE HD connect, would I be getting the equivalent of an HD combo?

In the link below (direct-link with attached file) is a discussion of a patched HDL0.8c and a answer of "Northbear" with his patched version that works....

Does HD pro installed in a SCPH-9000* work with the lastest version of OPL(Open PS2 Loader), meaning can it find the installed HDD games?

Yes ... this feature was added some time ago, but make sure you use the latest revision, not the newest version !
