HD Loader keeps wanting to format ?!

my hdloader keeps wanting to format my 160gig drive, i'm using a ide extension i made and a molex extension.....what i think is weird is that my 7 gig drive does fine, it's only the 160 that wants to format everytime i reset, also, hdl_dump reads the format fine....... i can't figure out what the deal is....any ideas anyone?

does it work ok without your homemake extension ?

if the answer is "yes" then I guess there is your problem.

yeah, but the 7 gig runs fine with the extension, the 7 gig doesn't try to format, now the 7 and 160 gig were formated differently when they were in my computer, the 7 was formated using windows formatting and the 160 was formated using maxtor's formatting prog, then they were formated in the ps2 using hd_loader, i don't really want to reformat my 160 gig because it has alot of games on it ..... i just think it's weird that one works fine and the other keeps wanting to format, any ideas anyone, the extension may be the problem but it works fine with my other hdd and with cd burners, etc on my comp.... i don't know

Have you bothered to test the 160gb HD in your ps2 without the homemade extension yet ?

yes i have and the couple times i have it has worked, but i wonder why it only does it with the 160 and the extension

You using a 40pin cable when a 80 is required ?

If you're not sure - are you using the cable wih the thin wires or the older thicker ones?

well i'm using the 40 pin, and it's working just fine now, i went ahead and made another extension and tried it, it works perfect, i guess a wire was crossing in the first one or something.....obviously the wire number doesn't matter, since i'm still using the thicker wire 40pin and it works with both drives, thanks anyway for the help guys
