hd loader disc - laser?
hd loader disc - laser? –
I have a messiah 2 V7 ps2 with a maxtor 120gb drive, all good everything works. My question is that if I boot up with the free hd loader disc and then leave the disc in while playing a gmae from the hd am I using the laser? I can hear the disc spinning while I play but is this wearing it down in the same way that playing dvdrip cd's wear it down?
Also I use Ritek yellow 'leopard style' 80min cdr and I had my ps2 standing vertically but the sound coming from the cd tray was like a chainsaw, I moved back to lying down and the sound goes, anyone know anything about these Qs, cheers in advance.
Also while I am posting, does watching divx with the reality player also cain the laser, I am just curious about the difference between the laser reading constantly as opposed to jumping back and forth to grab info dvdrip style, cheers.
I think most people either remove the HDL boot disc or click on Install Game then Cancel. Both methods will stop the drive from spinning if you are worried about wearing down not necessarily the laser but the motor unit as well.
Don't know much else about the laser though.
yeah right the motor too, cheers mate. How about if I just hit eject once and leave the tray open while I play?
Cheers for the quick response mate, nice one.
cheers mate that install game - cancel works a treat, thanks again.
I don't think you want dirt creeping into the unit. Just take out the disc and close the tray. Plus if it accidentally falls over, the unit will bust up if the tray is open.
Steve, is your CD Loader DVD or CD based? because I am having very similar problem and my setup is exactly the same as yours, PS2 v7 with Messiah 2 and Maxtor 120GB. and it's also setup as verticale. but I have no space to laid it flat though so that's a problem.
I had installed a game and played it of my harddisk but the disk wasn't spinning. I think that when you are playing a game of the harddisk you can just eject the tray and take out the cd without any problems, havn't checked it though...
That chainsaw effect can be made by the cd spinning on something or your air fan isn't working good but since you said that it comes from the tray it could be that the disc isn't held proberly in the tray, dropped it once or twice or more?
