Is the Hard Disk safe if the following happens?

in my country, sometimes the electricity goes away at random times, as if somebody just pulled the power plug of your entire house from the outside :dunno: ...........b4, i had a 'UPS', so i didnt really have anything to worry about.....but about a week ago my 'UPS' went away.......so now i am on plain direct power supply........

what i want to ask, is if my PS2 hard disk is in any danger (e.g. data being erased/corrupted,etc..) in the following cases:

1) playing a game of the hard drive

2) play a game off the CD/DVD while the hard drive is also inserted

3) transfering a game ISO from PS2 to PC using crossover networking...

4) transfering a game ISO from PC to PS2 using crossover networking...

5) any other significant situation...

hmm shure thing, your harddrive is in danger
if power is going down and your harddisk is spinning, it could be damaged
maybe headcrash,etc.
easy explanation a harddisk that stopps at once has no chance to park the read/write
head unit and by turning on the power again it slides over the disks insided
but if you be a lucky guy you own one of the newer models that are protected to such things, ask your dealer for that

If the drive is IDE it's quite sure it can park by itself (unlike a woman).

But if a drive is writing data when the power out happens the data is usually lost.

the ps2 hard drive is seagate 80GB 7200rpm internal IDE ............ so its only in danger when writing data on the ps2 hdd ?

secondly, the hard drive i use on my pc is seagate 40GB 5400 rpm internal IDE.......whenever the power goes out, i dont loose any data (normally)....all that happens is sometimes windows does a scan when booting.......

keeping this in mind, now do u think the ps2 hard drive is safe or not ???

most drives now days don't have a park command... they are spring loaded to pull the arm back to a parking pad while the drive spins down.... even if there is a powerfailure...

Bottom line is there's always a chance something will happen, but the odds are good you'll be OK.

there was this case where the dude put his ps2 (hdd inside) standing, he accedently kicked and the hdd was RIP...

cuz of this, i always keep my ps2 in the horizontal position :D

Dude , the only place were electricity goes away is in LeBanon . Are you from there? :)
