I was wandering if there are any PC programs that can transfer files onto a ps2 HDD, like winhiip but for putting files into partitons? Execftps is slow, I only have a 256mb compatible USB drive, and I don't want to waste CD-R's. What are any other options.

A PC program that can access a PS2 hdd and view and transfer files like explorer would be really cool.

HDLdumb/dump are used to put games onto hdd, I want to be able to put normal files into a partition I have created, ie: MP3's into +MP3 for PS2MP3, AVI's into +SMS MEDIA for SMS, ELF's into +PROGS (my program partition ).
But execftps is slow and crashes alot for me when sending files over about 3 mb. I would like a prorgam, like winhiip and hdl dump, where I can put my hdd inot my pc and send files to my partitions.

    hmm

What file system does it use?

Or maybe you could put the mp3s into a ISO file and load that on, but it would be tedious and may not work.

What do you mean what file system? On my PC or PS2?

All I want is to be able to put my PS2 hdd into my PC and run a program that can put transfer file into and out of partitions, not games or game partitions, files (like mp3's and Elfs) into partitions made with DMS format.

Or some way of transfering large files or large amounts of files to and from the HDD, execftps is slow and sometimes crashes, my biggest COMPATIBLE usbdrive is 256mb (damn 1 gig) and I don't want to waste CD's (I have no mod chip so no CD-RW's) plus some files are bigger then 700mb

    i don't think it's possible..

try us'n filezilla as the ftp client, also u should disable multiple connections cause that usally crashed the ps2.

it mite not be possible because in order to open a partition (they're like folders) the ps2 has to mount it. iono if that's possible on the pc. lol

You might want to take a look at the new 'unofficial' versions of LaunchELF, available in another forum of this site. Its new 'host:' device implementation allows you to browse files on your PC, and transfer them to PS2 media by the normal copy-paste methods of LaunchELF. Both speed (appx 500 KB/s) and reliability are better than for FTP. (Still not perfect, but then again, no presently available software for this purpose is perfect.)

I tried using PS2link and HOST once b4 in ps2menu and it didn't work so I gave up. Would you be able to list exactly what files I'll need and what needs to be done to set it up. I'm pretty good with networks and PC's so you don't need to dumb it down

    Thanks in advance

Ok, then I'll assume that you've got functional networking already, with the setup specified by mc0:/SYS-CONF/IPCONFIG.DAT

All you then need to add are two programs, one at each end of the connection. At the PS2 end you need a recent version of LaunchELF, the latest one being v3.41h (released last night). At the PC end you need some version (almost any will do) of PS2Client.

Starting both programs such that they will at once sync with each other is next to impossible, but here's how I do it instead.

First I start LaunchELF, and use a preprogrammed key to enter the file browser (if you don't have any such yet, programming such a key is your first need). In the file browser you'll find 'host:' at the bottom of the device list, so select that and press OK. (This can be either circle or cross with the new versions, so I'll just call it OK from now on, and call the other one CANCEL.)

Since no program is active at the other end, LaunchELF will soon time out and display an empty folder (this is normal at failed contact). Now press CANCEL to back out of that 'folder', getting back to the device list. The real purpose of what you just did was to kickstart the networking drivers, which now remain active.

Next, at the PC end, start ps2client.exe with the following argument (excluding the outermost quotes): "-h ps2 listen"

Here 'ps2' should either be replaced by the IP address of your PS2, or (as I use it) a name known to the 'hosts' file of your system as an alias for the IP address of your PS2.

After that, again select the 'host:' device in LaunchELF, which will then open the active work directory of ps2client.exe on the PC for browsing, in one of two different ways.

1: If a file is present there named elflist.txt, then all files and folders shown in that file (with paths correct for the PC) will be displayed as if they coexisted in a real folder, and that theoretical folder (and its real subfolders) is then available for browsing by LaunchELF.

2: If no file named elflist.txt is present, then the work directory itself of ps2client, and all subfolders in it are available for browsing.

If you use the elflist.txt method, then you'll probably find it useful to add lines in it like these:
    C:
    D:
    E:
The 3 lines above would give full acces to your first three PC drives, for example.

If you prefer not to use the elflist.txt method, then you may instead find it useful to use a batch file like the one I provide attached to this post. Just remember that you need to edit it to get your own ps2 IP address after the '-h' switch, unless you have (like I do) defined the symbolic name 'ps2' as a valid alias for that IP, by editing the file "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" (the path may be slightly different with some OS versions).

The 'listen.bat' file is used by placing it in the same folder as ps2client, and then place a shortcut to the batch on your desktop. From then on you can drag-drop stuff to that icon so as to start ps2client with the relevant folder as work directory, and listening for calls from LaunchELF. The result is that LaunchELF can browse whatever folder you chose (by Windows drag-drop), and all subfolders thereof. If you drop a folder this way, then that will be the folder opened, but if you drop some file then its containing folder will be used instead.

I assume that you are already familiar with how to copy stuff with LaunchELF once you can browse a folder, so I won't discuss that here, except to mention that the browsing you can do in PC folders this way is READ_ONLY. You will not be allowed to write data to these folders, or erase stuff from them. This is partly due to a limitation in current drivers, but also to avoid safety problems. I do NOT want to be accused of crashing anyone's PC, you know...

(Exception: If you use LaunchELF to launch another copy of itself, from host:, and with LAUNCHELF.CNF file(s) in the same folder, then LaunchELF is permitted to write config changes back to such file(s). But browser access to host: remains READ_ONLY.)

Thanks for the reply. I shall try it asap and let you know

EDIT: Does it matter what PC client I use? As PS2Client v2.0.0 on PS2Dev.org says it's for unix, osx, cygwin. Do you have a windows version or a complied one the works on windows? Or can I use PS2EXEC, Inlink or xlink? I'd like it to be as simple as possible and try to stick to the same as you coz you seem to do things pretty well.
