I'm having this same problem actually. I loading GT4 and Skygunner on my HDD last night using WinHiip and I just tried turning on my ps2 for the firs time a few minutes ago. It keeps stalling at CDVD.IRX and not booting... I tried taking out my HDD and then it loads fine, so I'm thinking maybe my HDD is corrupt or maybe one of the new games I added. I just now put it back in my PC and WinHiip is reading it fine.

I have a v2 PS2 with HDL working fine for maybe 4 months now.

The reason I asked about the controller is because I had a machine that would do the same thing if there wasn't a controller plugged in. As soon as I plugged the controller in, it worked fine. I tested this out a couple of times, and sure as sh*t, that's what it was.
