Formatting NTSC American Sony HDD to Sony FS?

i lost my old sony Utility disc and since its so old when i called for a replacement i got laughed at so hard and loud i heard teh rep fall out of his chair.. (Loud THUDD):rant:


(well its not Exactly "Lost" more like in another state as i left it behind -_-) i found an HDD util disc here oddly but.. to my surprise it came to what looked like something out of the c64 days (the way the menu waslookin like) it said Sony SCEI (so i think what i got at thhis 2nd hand shop was an JP disc or an European disc:crazy:)

i mean its not an Utter loss. since i have codebreaker still i got a means of storing copys of saves (to USB) and i got my PC PS3 and 360 for XI just... feels like a lil loss as i started 5 years ago from sept 27th on the PS2 for XI + the XI HDD kit was an Bday gift.:cry:

Errm, so what are you actually trying to accomplish here (I don't get what you're asking for)?

If you're asking whether you can format a SCE HDD in your NTSC-U console with a NTSC-J/PAL region-locked HDD utility disc... I can only say maybe.

If you have a modchip, and your HDD is a official Sony HDD: Yes.

If you don't have either, then that utility disc will probably not work for you.

If you're just looking for a way to create/modify/delete SCE PFS partitions, then you can use uLE if you don't have a HDD utility disc (Or one that works on your console).

FYI you can't see what PS2 the disc was meant for just by looking for text like "SCEI", "SCEA", or "SCEE" on it (You must see what region code was specified there: "NTSC-U/C", "NTSC-J" or "PAL").

I've seen a USA SCPH-39001 console with "SCEI" stamped on many of the chips inside it (So you can see that "SCEI" doesn't really mean that that part was meant for Japanese consoles).

That disc comes with the earliest JPN console which could not play DVD videos without the software that disc installs on a memory card.

The JPN HDD Utility disc looks like that but the paper envelope is RED.

The US disc is black and comes on a white envelope.

Your best shot is look around for a original on some flea market. Or use a modded PS2 and a backup of it to format the HDD. After that it will work just fine on a normal not modded PS2.

so you have an ntsc-u/c ps2 and the hdd from FFXI ntsc-u/c
and you need the hdd disk???
