Format A Maxtor 120gig
Format A Maxtor 120gig –
Just bought a Maxtor 120gig HD off eBay for my v5 PS2. Threw it in my computer, but I realized that it needs to be formatted with the PS2 file system. Any apps to do this, without having to pull it out, put it in the ps2, and use hdadvance to format it(which i currently dont have)?
You can also use HD Tool 1.1 to format it in the PS2 or DMS HDD FORMAT tool.
From the PC, I believe WinHiip will let you format it in the PS2 APA partition system.
HD Tool should work, but since I have a Magic V, I cant use the DMS FORMAT tool. I'll give WinHiip a shot tho...

sounds good man! but im still gonna use winhiip to format it, then use PS2 Handiness and install all my games from my computer, then swap out the hd. Supposedly its faster this way... BTW how would I go about having the PS2 boot HDadvance without having the cd in all the time (straight off the hd)?
Yeah, the DMS format tool works even without a modchip (like myself). But HD Tool is my preferred tool because it has more detailed information. But DMS' will boot from the memory card so I keep it on there to run maintenance.
By the way, if you start transfering images to the HD, you should stick with WinHiip since you are formatting with it (which doesn't have network transfer support yet I think). Switching to another dumping program might corrupt your HD.
