FMCB and HD Loader
Hi. I'm posting for a friend. He has a SCPH 390004 with FMCB and HD Loader + 320 GB HDD . If i try to install the game using HD Loader it doesn't recognise it . What are the options ? Put it in a desktop and use Winhiip i know , but i have a laptop  Can i transfer them by network ?
You can, using a ftp server loading in the ps2 and using lordbogami hdl dump.
Of course you could do the above but that is gonne take one hell of a time. You could connect it through external HD case, and transfer it through winhiip.

The fastest way to install games is attaching the ps2 hard drive to a USB hard drive enclosure and using winhiip 1.7.6. And that is the most reliable way. Keep in mind though, that if you switch around to different installers, it can currupt the MBR of the hard drive causing massive problems later on with your games.
Bootlegninja gives the straight dope above, but there is one more thing of importance to add, which is that whichever installer program you use you must specify the proper disc format to use, of which there are three:
1: Standard Sony HDD format using 28-bit LBA, with real max HDD size of 128 GB (what manufacturers call 137 GB)
2: Extended HDD format using 48-bit LBA, with max HDD size far beyond any existing drive...:)
3: Mixed format 'pretending' to be 28-bit LBA for the first 128 GB, but also capable of using the space beyond that limit with software made for it, and to preserve the low area untouched ToxicOS always installs games into the area above 128GB when available, if this format is used.
While the third alternative may 'seem' attractive, I recommend avoiding it like the plague, as it may be incompatible with properly written software for 48-bit LBA. This format was invented specifically for the ToxicOS software of the DMS4pro modchip, and is not really used anywhere else (though supported by some installers for HDLoader, as well as by one of the optional patches for HDLoader (seldom used)).
So for a 320 GB HDD (really appx 298 GB) I recommend always using standard 48-bit LBA.
