Fatal error on install... anyone have a fix ?!

I have 3 games that just will NOT install with HDloader due to the dreaded "Fatal error" on install.

DDR Max (6th Mix) - JAP - Original CD
DDR Party Collection - JAP - Original CD
Crazy Taxi - PAL - Original CD

I also hear that the following do the same :-

Contra Shattered Soldier
Gradius III
Gradius IV
Half Life
Risk Global Domination

Has anyone had ANY success on getting ANY of the above installed ?!

If so i am guessing you installed via "Hld_dump" but the question is...

1. Did you install from the CD ?
OR
2. Did you create an ISO image onto your Harddrive ?

If you created an ISO image onto your HD and used Hdl_dump then ...

1. What software did you use to create the ISO ?
2. Which version of Hdl_dump did you use to install the ISO ?
3. Did you need to change any of the mode settings to get the game to work ?

If this situation isnt solved then it will be very easy for the games makers to prevent us from installing any new ps2 games :banghead:

Well, i think it would be anyway to be honest.
For a start hdloader seems to rely on specific calls from the SDK. Change the sdk version used in future games and that would sort it.

They could also easily add seperate routines for checking the dvdrom drive to verify a discs presence

Do you think they would really bother with adding anti HDloader code ?
Shorly comming up with some fancy copy protection would be more beneficial ?
That way then NOBODY would be able to copy/backup games.

Then again "they" know very well how much the ability to "backup" games helps the sale of the their hardware !!!

Lets face it the Gamecube is a dead duck because the games cannot be backed up. If the Xbox was unhackable then it would have died ages ago.

The only reason psone and ps2 have been so popular is due to the fact that everyone and his dog knows you can get them to play backups with and without modchip.

Lets see how well PS3 does if they opt to go with some non standard media.

Anyway, getting back to the initial problem of the "fatal errors"............

I have managed to get "DDR Max (6th Mix) - JAP" installed and working with Hdl_dump v0.4 :)

Im just about to test "DDR Party" and "Crazy Taxi" using the same method of ISO creation :)

i installed crazy taxi usa cd, no installing problem, works perfect.

As far as I know, both, Sony and Microsoft, are losing money of every console sold. They profit from the games (and licenses), but not from the hardware itself.

Im very happy now.

All 3 of my problem games now work thanks to HDL_DUMB V0.4

Previously I was using the DOS Hdl_dump v0.2a and nothing I tried resulted in a game that booted.

Woot woot woot im in DDR heaven.

Yeah true but more hardware sold = more original software bought.

Even though the hardware MAY have initially been bought due to knowledge of backups/modchips owners will STILL purchase original software.

ps/ I have a DVD burner, a 1.5mb cable connection, a region free DVD player, access to easynews BUT STILL OWN "233 original DVD movies" !

spacemonkey, did you enable any of the 3 modes for ddr party collection? i cant seem to get my copy to work.

The only game I have installed with HDloader that requires ANY mode change is "Tony Hawk Underground USA" (mode 3).

ALL 6 DDR games I have installed require NO mode change what so ever.

i'll try turning it into an iso before dumping it onto the drive.
