What can make ExecFTPS say:

Server said: Not understood.

I'm able to type in commands, but they have no effect.

This is a known problem. ExecFTPs violates the FTP protocol in its greeting lines. I made a script to workaround this. You can find it here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f19/execftps-linux-ftp-clients-26180/

You need netcat, or it won't run. Be sure to connect to your LAN IP, or it won't work :)
