    Hey,

I was attempting to get ExecFTP running on my PS2. I made an .iso with CDGEN and burned it to a CD-R with DVDEncrypter. When I placed the disc in my ps2 it came up with the expected dialog saying the server was initialized on port 21, but when I try to connect to the server via an FTP client it doesn't work. Am I using the proper method here? I'm thinking about trying to use the HDL Dump method but I'd really prefer to install it from a disc.

Also, one thing that concerns me is that when I go into my router administration, the PS2 is only assigned an IP address when I actually go online with it. What I mean is, when the PS2 isn't online, there is no IP address assigned to it in the DHCP list, however when I go online the IP is assigned normally. Is this causing the problem? Do I need to manually assign an IP to it or something? Thanks in advance for responses!!

No one has any input on this? I would think some people could offer SOME advice on getting this program running properly. Anyone?

First of all, if you are planning on using ExecFTPs in order to transfer games to your HD, it will be SLOW AS HELL, so you might be better off putting the drive into your PC and use HDL_Dump/b from there. For putting games on the harddisk via network, I also recommend using the server included with HDL_Dump, because it works with > 120 GB drives (I haven't checked if ExecFTPs supports this by now) and it's generally easier to use without an FTP client (where you have to do all the mounting/unmounting stuff manually).

Second, how do you connect your PS2 to your home LAN? Using a router is probably not the best idea (due to IP assigning, port forwarding and stuff), so if you can, use a crossover cable direct connection to your PC if possible and make sure you connect to 192.168.10.0 (at least that's ExecFTPs default IP adress it assigns to the PS2) and your Firewall allows traffic for your FTP client/through Port 21 (or disable it completely).

Since when has ExecFTPs been able to transfer games All it can do is tranfer FILES to memcard and a mounted hdd partition (not a HDL/HDA partition) and yes it can be slow but unless your transfering 4gig of mp3s it won't take too long and using HDL_Dump over network has the same speeds.

Using a router is probably the BEST idea! As long as the router is setup correctly. For my setup I have my ps2 connected to my router and my pc is on wireless and I have NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!! It all depends on how things are setup for the individual network. If you had trouble connecting using your router and resorted to a crossover to get it working give me a PM and I should be able to help you out. (I'm not saying you did have trouble or you don't know what your doing so plz don't be offended )

When you set your ps2 to go online using a game you would have told it to use DHCP but homebrew programs don't have the ability to do this yet, so as result they must always use a static IP. ExecFTPs will default to:
    PS2: 192.168.0.10
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 192.168.0.1

The best thing to do is to set you own IP's in CONFIG.DAT and have it in the same folder as ExecFTPs. With the gateway as you routers IP the subnet mask the same as your network and the PS2 as a valid IP for your network. If you think it's right and have ExecFTPs running b4 you try and connect try pinging the PS2's IP if you get replies then the connection is there, if you still cannot connect then it is not a network problem. If you have any problems just PM me and I'll see what more help I can be.

Hmm...maybe I'll try hooking my harddrive up to my computer directly...although it seems like a hassle and risky to have to crack open my PC case each time I'd like to put something on the HD.

Just make sure you have the jumpers right and be careful with the programs as some have had problems. Note that windows will not see the hdd at all, but the programs will. I use Lordbogmai's HDL_Dumo Gui 1.1

Sorry, I was under the impression that you could mount the HDL partitions from ExecFTPs and transfer ISOs with an FTP client. I know that PS2 FTPing is incredibly slow (for transferring game ISOs) with either method. When I have the time or am too lazy to hook up the HD to my computer, I prefer the HDL_Dump/Server method.

It's actually more convenient for me to hook up the PS2 directly via crossover since it's usually not anywhere near my router. I could set it up fairly easy, I guess, but I still think using the direct connection/crossover method is the way to go for newbies. They just have to make sure their firewall is disabled (or configured to allow access to the FTP port or client software) and connect to the default IP 192.168.0.10 (not 192.168.10.0 as I mistakenly stated, sorry) with their FTP client. Btw, the default IP is the same for both ExecFTPs AND the HDL_Dump Server if I remember correctly.

Still, considering the incredibly slow transfer speeds for the currently available PS2 FTP solutions, I'd always recommend hooking up your drive to the PC. Once you've figured out how it works, it's very easy to do.

As said, be careful to set your jumper accordingly (master for use in PS2, slave for use in PC - so you can transfer ISOs from your master HD) and use the right software. I'm seconding HDL_Dump. Not the Lordbogami GUI (looks ugly if you ask me), but the standard one *personal preference*.

I admit using a cross over is easier (I have done it sometimes ) but not every one has a crossover cable lasying around when they have a home network, so to save money and time finding one it can be just as easy to use the router, I'll also agree router and ps2 placment can be an issue as well.

I agree with you on this as well, once figured out it is very easy to do, plug, boot, transfer, shutdown, unplug the speeds dumping from pc are MUCH MUCH faster even with the time it takes to take the case apart and plug it in and the program used does come down to personal preference, I have all thee on my pc, Winhiip, HDL_Dumb and lordbogmi.
