ExecFTP 0.68 MC > PC –
09-21-2004,07:59 PM
When i try to send files from the MC to the PC it just freezes but i can send files to the MC from the PC at very nice speeds. Is there something that i need to configure to send files from the MC to the PC so it will work. Do i need to do the SITE MNT or someother command?
thanks

The SITE MNT command is only needed to access harddisk, not memory card.
It could be a problem with the limited implementation of the FTP protocol in ExecFTPs.
Have you tried disabling the passive transfer method in your FTP client ?
You probably need passive mode for servers on the Internet, so leave it active in global settings, but disable it for the specific site used. With FlashFXP you do this in the site manager, by selecting the 'Options' tab of the site, and removing the check mark from the box entitled "Use Passive mode".

Yes i've already tried changing passive mode on and off and still no go. I am running the latest version of flash with a legal serial. I thought SITE MNT was only for the hdd , thanks for the confirmation on that though. By the way i too have a DMS3 and would like to know what the path to DEV 2 is. If someone who has a ps2 other than a V9/V10 could install it they could tell us
the correct path for DEV 2. I can't get it to install either and a new flash upgrade for the chip won't help either. I put my chip in sleep mode and used the exploit to run hdd explorer ELF and it still won't install. Its a bug in the installer.elf if it was a coding problem with 2.3 Final then having the chip in sleep mode would have allowed me to install hdd explorer.

Phe0nix:
I'm not sure how it's supposed to be done with the DMS3, since I have a Ripper 2 Gold myself, but I thought the whole point of 'Sleep mode' was to hide the chip from games that have countermeasures. At least that's how it's supposed to work for the Ripper.
DMS HDD Explorer on the other hand is MEANT to see the chip, as it will refuse to install itself if no DMS3 chip is present. So using the sleep mode for this installation seems to be the wrong thing to do here, as this is one time when you don't want the chip to hide itself from detection.
Still I guess you've already tried it both ways without success anyway, which brings up another interesting question.
Has ANYONE succeeded in installing HDD Explorer ?
It sounds silly, but I have NEVER seen a post by anyone claiming success.
Could it just be a MYTH ?
Just advertising hype from DMS ?
Or pitifully compatible with only a small range of PS2s ?
I'm not claiming that it is so, but when several users of genuine DMS chips can't install it (and I've seen such reports elsewhere too), then these questions need to be raised.
Hopefully the answer to those questions is NO.
Hopefully someone who has succeeded will come here and tell us about it, and how it works. But until that happens the questions remain open, and our suspicions will remain as well.

there are people who have installed hdd explorer with also other programs the problem i suspect with the people that have not been able to install it will have a v9 or v10 with a dms+ in thier machine which has known compatability problems with dms hdd explorer if they took the time to goto the dms forums they would find this out and also find a fix for it.

Excellent!
I had a hunch that my last post would bring a quick response
So you are saying that the DMS site has some fix that will allow ALL users of DMS3 chips to install HDD Explorer correctly. Right ?
Hopefully the fix you mention can help the DMS users here to succeed in installing it, so we can finally get this sorted out.

Please check this out at the DMS site, and share your new results here.
Everyone:
I did finally manage to find a confirmation that it is the partition __boot which is supposed to contain mode 2 applications, but I still have no info on folder and file names. And trying BOOT.ELF directly in the root or in /BOOT/ does NOT work. I've been searching the DMS forums quite a while now, without finding these details.
Btw: Basic info like this should be part of basic documentation supplied by
---- the manufacturers, NOT available only as info from one user to another.
Best regards: dlanor
PS: __boot may be wrong after all, some say it's used only for stuff launched by HDD Explorer, but not for the HDD Explorer executable.

After some heavy reading of the DMS forums it is clear that many there do have HDD Explorer installed as mode 2 application.
It is also clear that these users have the same problem we do, of NOT KNOWING where the real mode 2 boot file is to be stored or what its name on HDD will be. They mistakenly speak of mode 2 applications as being the ones launched by HDD Explorer, when in fact the launching method it uses has nothing to do with Dev.olution mode 2 booting. (Only one application can be started that way, just as for mode 1.)
And I've seen plenty of posts where users are fairly begging for info on where to place programs for real mode 2 booting. None of these have received any reply from DMS !
So, the manufacturers clearly refuse to tell us, the customers, how to install stuff to be launched by the features that were used to convince us to buy their product. Selling a product for use of certain features, and then preventing the user from access
to those features is fraud, no less!
(And this goes equally for Ripper 2 and DMS, as both suppress this info.)
This whole situation is sick. I can find no other word for it...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We're currently working on a flash update to correct the HDD Explorer issue, support the AR EVO Max and fix some other minor issues. Users are welcome to post any bug reports here.
I have been checking for a fix since day one of the DMS3 + chip. I was one of the first people to get one. I installed it and as you can imagine everything execpt HDD Explorer worked.

You say that as if there has been a fix for months. After checking atleast 2 times per day for a fix and read your post and go back the DMS fourms and
its the same old same old. Dispite that DMS is working on a fix for HDD Explorer by working on a new flash ( 2.4 ) for the modchip, i'd have to say it
will be invain. I have used the independence exploit to run the HDD Explorer Installer ELF that is packed in an image for download on the DMS3 site. With the mod in sleep mode and runnning the ELF it still freezes at the install screen after selecting to install it. I have tried the exploit to run PS2Link and executed the installer through INLink and still nothing. If it was the code on the DMS3 or the chip itself then sleep mode would have allowed me to install it.DMS is going to have to fix the ELF and the flash code. This is a problem with V9/V10 i've checked the download section for a new HDD Explorer and the news section and fourms. If there is a fix in the fourms it would have to be from an indivdual not DMS as i've seen nothing. I'm not about to read every post under every hdd explorer topic , there are just too many. After searching through the fourms it seems that the HDD Explorer searches for the DMS modchip so that being as it is , it must be in the flash code.
