  1. #1 PS2 Evenin', my first mod attempt, do I want HD loader?

Firstly, if somebody else has asked this question already, sorry for the redundancy!

Ok, so my situation is that I'm getting ready to study abroad for a year, and I want to take just my PS2 with me, no games or anything extra (don't want the extra weight or space usage) and I had heard of this HD loader.

Now, my current plan is this: I want to install a modchip, since that will allow me to play games I purchase overseas (Japan, to be specific) and I want to get a HDD and install that so I can load all my current games on and not have to take the physical games with me.

So far, my plan seems to be purchasing a DMS4 modchip (supposedly no soldering) and the HD Loader. Am I approaching this correctly, or am I apparantly on the heroin?

Also, I do have a friend who is an electrical engineer, so if I have to get something soldered, I can do that.

Oh yeah, and I have a standard, non-slim PS2. Pretty new though, got it last September.

Thank you all very much in advance!

yeah, thatll work. but if u get dms4 pro it comes with its own version of hdloader.
i did the same thing and came to jp with my ps2 an HDloader with mod chip so i could order games in english or bring my existing games over without the extra baggage.

    have fun in jp mate

Sounds like a good enough plan, except I've heard nothing but bad things about the solderless DMS chips. No personal experience with em though, so you might want to ask around.

Okay, so will that DMS software allow me to load games or just play them back from the hard drive? I'm wondering if I need to purchase this HD Loader program at all.

Also, thank you very, very much for the advice thus far, it has been invaluable.

the DMS4 modchips as shipped will NOT boot any games. They are homebrew only.

You must instead downlaod and burn the TOXIC BIOS and/or TOXIC OS upgrade disks.
The PRO versin can use toxic OS, which is a hdloader with increased compatability and the ability to install dual layer games. the LITE version cannot use toxic OS, but can load the toxic BIOS instead, which is just the modchip portion.

So buy DMS 4 Pro ( wouldn't suggest the EZI and get it installed. then download and burn toxic OS CD. If you are wondering where to get toxic OS, do a google search for "toxicos compatible" and you should be able to locate a site with it on it.

PS: doing this makes you an enemy of the scene (laugh) us ps2-scene people hates them, we do. if instead you want to be a friend of the scene, then you should instead get a crystal chip, then put the real firmware on it, then get the patced hdloader elf from a certain site that cam be found by googling for

    "elf library" hdloader

Please don't spread nonsense like this.

No one has ever been called an 'enemy of the scene' on this site, just for using or liking the DMS chips, and believe me, I've seen lots of posts by such users. While it is true that some of the site admins have issues with the DMS developers, that does not affect the freedom of normal users.

Also, while it is true that many here favor the Crystal Chip, doing so is NOT (and never has been) any requirement. That is merely a myth, created by an unfriendly site. In fact I believe that Crystal users are a minority here, and I've seen a lot more mention of Matrix Infinity (which I use myself).

    Summing up:
This site does not enforce opinions upon its members, and all rumours to the contrary are just propaganda from hostile sites. So PLEASE do not spread those false rumours here as well.

    Best regards: dlanor

PS: I'm not a site admin, or even a moderator, but just a normal user. Still, I couldn't just pass this by without commenting.
    DS.

i guess the laugh wasn't enough of a clue that I was trying to be silly. my point was that the dms team has made a lot of enemies here, and thus it s preferable to avid using their roducts, despite the obvious beneft of getting xic 0.3

You know its the dumb statements like this that really irritates me. Nobody ever said anything about forcing you to buy a CC. The same people who sit here and supposidly hate ownz or whatever are the same people that listen to them a little too much. If we were that pro CC there would be no other modchip talk here.

Facts are the facts, sjeep screwed people. He even admitted to it on more than one occasion. Read that fake interview he did for maxconsole. Althought he doesnt come out and directly say it, he does state that a number of people helped him with HDL. Much of which he doesnt have the skills to complete himself.
