i was using for six mounth a 120 gb maxtor diamond max plus 9 with 2 mb of cache. all of a suddently on mounth ago (18 dicember 04) when testing my apps i started getting errors from ps2atad like this
    DEV9 device driver v1.0 - Copyright (c) 2003 Marcus R. Brown

dev9_driver: CXD9611 (Expansion Bay type) initialized.
    ATA device driver v1.1 - Copyright (c) 2003 Marcus R. Brown
    atad_driver: Driver loaded.
    ps2hdd: PS2 APA Driver v1.1 (c) 2003 Vector
    ps2hdd: max open = 4, 20 buffers
    ps2hdd: 11:36:12 01/07/2005
    usb_mass: connect: devId=2
    usb_mass: connect ok: epI=1, epO=2
atad_driver: Error: Command error: status 0xff51, error 0x04.
    ps2hdd: disk0: 0x0e4ff780 sectors, max 0x00400000
    ps2hdd: checking log...
    ps2hdd: drive status 0, format version 00000002
    ps2hdd: driver start.
    ps2fs: Playstation Filesystem Driver v1.0
ps2fs: (c) 2003 Sjeep, Vector and Florin Sasu
ps2fs: Max mount: 4, Max open: 10, Number of buffers: 40
    ps2fs: Driver start.

today i tried deleting a partition and creating a new one the new one worked but when i recreated the old one (with dms format 4096mb) it didn't work well some programs shows ridiculus free space like 4294967291MB. or if i create partition above 5 gb it starts counting mb from the 4gb bonduary. i'm really disappointed. i tried erasing creating some ntfs partition, formatting them and wipping the drive. but nothing. tried a advanced check by powermax and it certiefies that the disc is 100% error free. tried a fast low level format and it being better now it writes that:
dev9_driver: CXD9611 (Expansion Bay type) initialized.
    ATA device driver v1.1 - Copyright (c) 2003 Marcus R. Brown
    atad_driver: Driver loaded.
    ps2hdd: PS2 APA Driver v1.1 (c) 2003 Vector
    ps2hdd: max open = 4, 20 buffers
    ps2hdd: 08:43:09 01/08/2005
    usb_mass: connect: devId=2
    usb_mass: connect ok: epI=1, epO=2
    ps2hdd: disk0: 0x0e4ff780 sectors, max 0x00400000
    ps2hdd: checking log...
    ps2hdd: drive status 0, format version 00000002
    ps2hdd: driver start.
    ps2fs: Playstation Filesystem Driver v1.0
ps2fs: (c) 2003 Sjeep, Vector and Florin Sasu
ps2fs: Max mount: 4, Max open: 10, Number of buffers: 40
    ps2fs: Driver start.
so the atad error has gone but remain the ps2hdd error. what should i do? do a complete low level format should resolve that?

replace your network adaptor. it's defective.

either that, or the connection is loose. a low level format of a modern drive is impossible.

try this as well... view it in IE..

when i used to be a computer technician, i would sometimes have drives that wouldn't allow me to delete partitions due to the non conformity in the MBR.. doing a fdisk /mbr did nothing, and thus i could never see the drive properly in systems..

tools that did a low level format still didn't wipe out the master boot record, or the mft (i assume, since i could still see some of it in a ahex tool)..

so i did this, and it fixed all my woes

actually powermax do a low level format i did a complete one but any difference, tried also the method by killerspaz but nothing. also the burn in t est told my the disc is perfect but i get this and it don't change (the hd is still logical unformatted from the low level format)
    IOP cmd: 1 args
    ps2hdd: PS2 APA Driver v1.1 (c) 2003 Vector
    ps2hdd: max open = 1, 3 buffers
    ps2hdd: 02:53:54 01/08/2005
    ps2hdd: disk0: 0x0e4ff780 sectors, max 0x00400000
    ps2hdd: checking log...
    ps2hdd: drive status 1, format version 00000000
    ps2hdd: driver start.
    loadmodule: id 35, ret 0

i'm starting thinking it's the na but it's strange i have this na from one year and worked fine with the hd for six mounth so i don't think it's defective maybe it got damaged
