I bought the official 40 Gigabyte Sony Hard Disk Drive made for the Playstation 2 and I'm tired of playing Final Fantasy XI. All I would like to know is if I can and how I can install the Sony Hard Drive into my PC. Do I need to reformat it somehow, is it even possible for me to do this? Thanks in advance.

I don't want to have to buy any special software to do it. And will it work in my computer because I really wouldn't like to throw away a hundred bucks like that by screwing it up.

i doubt you'll need any special software, you probably just wont be able to use it for FF XI anymore..

you should probably just sell the drive on ebay, and use the proceeds to buy a bigger (and better) drive for your PC.

Why not just trade with me? I would love to have your official HDD and game and could give you a real computer hard drive with instructions and all. It would be either a 40 that I am currenty using or a bigger one if I don't get sacked this week (which is a strong possibility).

Lol, you want to trade your 40 GB PC Hard Disk for his Official Sony's 40 GB HDD with FF XI? Doesn't sound like a sweet deal to me:P

He doesnt like FF XI and wants to stick his PS2 HDD in his computer. He has nothing to lose. And if he wants to bargain hard, I am willing to negotiate if I am not getting layed off.

you could stick it in your computer, reformat it, and use it as a PC hard drive. Now, you could reformat it for use with a ps2 again, but it wouldnt be able to install ffxi, use hdd utils, show up in browser, etc.

why not?? did the official ps2 hard drive come pre-formatted? if you re-format using ffxi wouldn't it work again. i thought the only thing that the ps2 checked was the firmware on the drive. even if formatting it kills the ps2 drive then take a ghost image of the drive and save that image. format the hard drive to use on your pc. if you want to use it for your ps2 again then put the ghost image back on.
