DVD movies can't be launched from HDL. First of all they're encrypted and second there's no executable programs for HDL to load. The DVD-player itself remains in the BIOS also in an encrypted form and the player takes care of decrypting the moviedata when playing. So there would be quite a job to decrypt several levels of encryption and patching data inbetween to direct various disc-accesses to the HDD.

But you're welcome to try. I bet Sony/MPAA/etc wouldn't mind.

A port of MPlayer should do the job... and to DeCSS the DVD before writing it to the HDD is not really a big problem...
