IDE hard drives are ATA drives, this is the standard connecter to fit into a PC or indeed the ps2 or xbox, the kind of drives you cannot use is the SATA (Serial ATA) as there connecters are different
i have a 160gb maxtor diamond plus series drive in my ps2 currently and it does indeed work.
Maybe you could use one of those SATA to IDE adapter. But I doubt that would work. Plus even if it does, you would have to do a lot of modding.
My suggestion is to never buy one from the official site. Check 3rd party site like newegg or something. Good luck!
I have a maxtor 160gig diamond max plus 9, and it works beutifully, no back to playing......
Oops! Never mind. That drive is IDE. Don't let the naming confuse you. IDE, ATA, Ultra ATA, ATA133, Ultra ATA133, etc, they are all the same (40 pin). But SATA, or Serial ATA, in the other hand uses a different interface than the old 40-pin connector.
ahhh so confusing - thank you all![]()
