Yeah I have. Same thing happened.
Also, I tried same procedures at my friend's SCPH 39004 fat PS2. Same problem.

well its seems its your NA fault .well you can try OPL along with external HDD OPL is most recent and compatible to game than hdl .

Hey man. I got it working already. I suspect the problem was the loose interface that connects the Network Adapter to the PS2. Maybe it didn't sit firmly. I just tried it one last time hoping to see the hardware error again

That was actually my next option. I'm gonna try that after some playing with HDLoader.
