    Hi there!
this is my first post, so be gently okay ?

    Anyway: here's the problem:
I downloaded cracked free HD loader and burned it to cd-r and
popped in a Maxtor 120 gig that should be compatible according to the drive compatibilty list (it's a maxtor 120 gb 7200 8mb 6Y120PO Disc).

    I'm using a v7 PAL ps2 with messiah2 pro 1.3.

The disc is brand new. Put in disc using ethernet adapter. Loaded up HD loader cd-r. It boots, and says to format HD, I click "okay".
It says 'formatting in progress', but it won't finish! (left for 2 hours).

Okay, turned off console, and loaded again.
This time, it won't say to format the HDD, but the programs itself hangs at the "Free HD loader" screen.

Resetted 2 times, this time, it will go past the screen, and going to the menu saying that there are no games on the HDD.. (strange)

    I first installed vrally 3.
I played it for a while (worked great)
Then i installed auto modellista, but then it said there wasn't enough space on the HDD to install the game!... I did reset, and got to the menu again, then installed auto modellista.

    I played both games once.
After reset, again it freezes at the HD loader screen!!!

Okay.. I figured, something must have gotten wrong during the format.
But, HD loader won't go past the loading screen, so i cannot format again!

Then, I used DMS HDD tool to format the disc. Put in disc, and did the format.
Took 20 seconds or so, and finished with succes!, so i was thinking "finally!!"
Next, put in HD loader again, but still freezes!!!

    ARRGGGHH!!

So many people have gotting this drive working! (except me.. Well, i worked for 10 minutes at first). I know this drive should work!!

Or maybe, the cracked version of HD loader no good ???
(well in the drive compatibity list, someone has the same drive working with cracked HD loader)

    Anyone wants to help please!!!???

    Greetz,
    JRLS

i would suggest getting the DMS-HDD-FORMAT-TOOL from www.dms3.com, then loading that and holding the top shoulder buttons during the loading screen. (L1, L2, R1, R2).

Holding those buttons will force a re-format, which hopefully should work. What you might want to do is do this at night, and let it format your drive while you sleep. (bc apparently it could take a while)

    YES!!

That did the trick! - Thanks!!
The DMS HD tool formatted my drive in like 30 seconds or so.
    Now, all is working fine!
I got like 10 games or so on the HDD and they all work fine.

    A couple of things though:
    - DVD rips wont install. i've tried 5 rips, only one will install. The rest have 'read errors'.
    - CD games and DVD games install 100%
    - HD loader on CD will freeze on loading screen. Hitting eject, and it will go to the menu (the rest works fine though)
    - HD loader put on DVD WONT freeze on loading screen!

    Any ideas ??

no problem. I guess the DMS format tool should be the recommended format tool to use.

I have heard of the dvd-rips problem, but all I know is that I tried a backup of vice city, and it worked fine.

As for putting it on DVD, I think you are the firs tto discover that it wont freeze on the laoding screen if its on dvd. It also will not freeze when booted from ps2menu. (which is what i use)

    Hey t0n,
    Thanks for the help!

I guess the Free HD loader has some bugs in it (freezing, and not installing all DVD rips without errors)

Anyway : About the rip problem. I tried 5 games so far, and only 1 would install (auto modellista). I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between this disc and the others. Someone else suspected it had to to with the number of files or TOC of the disc. Adding dummy files to the HD loader disc to increase the TOC should help, but i haven't gotten it to work..

Yeah, i made a good version now, that won't freeze. Only, i want to get rid of the dvd rip problem now!
What's this ps2menu thing ??... i've read some threads on it, but i do not really understand what it's all about... Can you point me in the right direction please ?? (and maybe some links or private messages where to download ?)

TOC shouldnt be an issue with a modchip.

As for ps2menu, it is an application that allows you to copy any file or folder to/from MC, HDD, network, and CDVD. You can also rename files, and execute ELF files. So it will see all ELF files you have on MC, HDD, network, or CD, and can execute them. Kindof like a loader program, and its very useful - I use it everyday.

you can download it from here: http://ps2dev.org/kb.x?T=1001

About HD loader: I still don't know why most dvd rips won't install!
You got vice city on HDD, right?.. I got auto modellista on it, but other games wont install: (giving errors):
    - NBA street 2 (dvd rip)
    - clock tower 3 (dvd rip)

    About ps2menu:
In this link it's called "p2s link".. ??? - Is it the right one ??
I downloaded the files, but i can't see a "system" file. So if i burn these to a ps2 disc format, it won't boot.
Are those files for burning to cd-r ??
And adding a system file, for booting which file ???
