    Here's my setting :

PowerBook G4 running Mac Os 10.4
HDL v0.8c (the elf file is installed on my mc)
    uLaunchELF v4.30
    Free Mcboot v.1.8
    XDumb v.0.9.9
    a compatible HDD + a network adapter

    Here's what I did :

I plugged the Ethernet cable from my network adapter to my Mac. I launched FMCB and selected HD Loader. It detected my hdd and asked me to format it. I clicked ok, now the hdd is formated.

Then, I thought I simply had to lauch HDLoader while my Mac and Ps2 were connected together (with the Ethernet cable), but seems like it's not that easy!

The default setting in Xdumb is "Ps2 IP Adress" set to 192.168.0.1, but trying to connect that way gives me an error message "Cant connect check your settings".

So I went to my "Network preferences", and saw a different IP address under the "Ethernet" tab, so I tried putting that IP adress in Xdumb, but it still failes!

I also went to my "System preferences" and deactivated the firewall and also selected all "services" to make sure my computer was completely accessible, but that did"nt help either (by services, I mean : FTP Access, File sharing Mac and Windows etc...)

Do I have to install something on my HDD? Anything missing in order to work? Why cant Xdumb access my Ps2's hdd??

I think you should read this thread... I'm sure your Apple settings are right, but you're using the wrong program on your PS2 to access. You're not supposed to use HDLoader to install the games from the network. HDLoader is to install from the original DVD. What you need to do is run HDLD server elf.

I followed the procedure as described in the link you gave me :

I hooked up my Ps2 to my computer with an Ethernet cable. Then I ran uLaunchelf and launched the hdld.svr-0.8.5 ELF file. Here's what I get on the screen :

    Code:
    hdld.svr-0.8.5
    **********
use one of the following locations to set IP address :
    MC0: /BIDATA-SYSTEM/IPCONFIG.DAT
    MC0: /BADATA-SYSTEM/IPCONFIG.DAT
    MC0: /BEDATA-SYSTEM/IPCONFIG.DAT
    MC0: /SYS-CONF/IPCONFIG.DAT
    Playstation 2 IP address : 192.168.0.10
    Ready
So I run Xdumb and try to connect using that exact same ip address (192.168.0.10) but I still get the "Fail to connect, check your settings" error message.

I'm only giving you advice based on theory. I don't have a mac, so I can't say for sure. But if there's a way to run the hdl_svr ELF (java app) described by Fatman in that thread on your mac, you should be able to connect. It's the program I use on my Vista. I'm sorry I can't give much more advice, but I figured since you were trying to load it to HDLoader rather than hdld.svr, that could be the problem. I'm sure someone with a mac will chime in soon and give you better advice.

Wish I could be of more help.

I dont know it that information is pertinent, but looking at the hdd's content, I see couple of folders that are almost all empty. Could that be the problem?... I mean, is there supposed to be a file that I dont have ? :

    Code:
    ../
_net/ --------------- Nothing in this folder
_system/ ---------- Nothing in this folder
_sysconf/ ---------- Nothing in this folder
_common/ --------- Nothing in this folder
_boot/ ------------- Nothing in this folder
    HDLoader Settings/ --- One file called "gamelist.log"

Don't think the empty folders matter, are you using a crossover cable?

    Ok I've got it!

First here's a list of everything I use in order to transfer .iso games from my computer to my HDD :

    - a memory card
    - a compatible HDD
    - a ps2 network adapter
    - Free McBoot
    - uLaunchelf.ELF
    - HDLoader
    - hdld.svr-0.8.5.ELF (that's the server)
    - an Ethernet cable
    - XDumb 0.9.9 (get XDumb 1.0 if you're running Mac Os 10.5) it's right here : http://xdumb.free.fr/blog/?page_id=3

Here is the exact procedure if you're a Mac Os 10.4 user! :

    - Firtst thing, you will need to have Free McBoot installed on your memory card
    - Also install the "hdld.svr-0.8.5" ELF file to your memory card
    - Connect your Ps2 network adapter to your Mac using a conventional Ethernet cable

    Now, on your Mac...
    - Click the apple logo on the top left corner of your screen and select "System preferences"
    - Select "Network"
    - Where is says "Show", chose "Build-in Ethernet"
    - Look under the first tab called "TCP/IP" you'll see "Configure IPv4", the default setting is probably set to "Using DHCP", click on it, and select "Manually" instead
    - Next to "IP address", put "192.168.0.1" and leave the "subnet mask" to 255.255.255.0
    - Click on "Apply" on the bottom in that window

    Now back to the Ps2...
    - Use Free MCboot to launch "uLaunchelf"
    - Browse to the hdld server
    - It will display a black screen and couple of information, and when "Ready" appears, you are ready to start copying your games from your computer to your hard drive!

    Now on your Mac...
    - Launch Xdumb, set ip address to "192.168.0.10" and click on "connect"

That's it! Xdumb is pretty easy to use so simply look at the options it gives you! You also might want to check the "game's compatibility list" before you go ahead and start transfering files. It will tell you the "modes" you need to activate in Xdumb. The list is right here : http://list.sksapps.com/index.php?page=indexa.html

Once the transfer is complete reboot your Ps2, run FreeMCBoot and launch HDLoader, select your game and play!

**** A lot of people are talking about IPCONFIG.DAT and that file is also mentionned on the black screen in hdld.svr, but honnestly, I still dont know what that file is, I dont have it, and I'm still able to do what I want to do!

IPCONFIG.DAT is the file in SYS-CONF folder on your MC that contains the IP address of the PS2, that is of course if you are using the non standard one, I use 192.168.1.155 as it is within the address range my router allows, with a direct connection you can just use the default IP address. My IPCONFIG.DAT file contains

    192.168.1.155 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1

that's the PS2 IP, mask, and the Gateway(router) IP.

    Thanks Efros for the explanation!
But why would anyone want to pass through their router instead of having a direct connection? Wouldn't you get a faster transfer is you simply plugged your computer to your ps2?

My computer is in the basement, I have a straight Cat 5e cable that is 20' long connecting my PS2 to a switch, the switch is connected to my router and my PC. It's is easier for me to have the PS2 connected via the router than a direct connection purely because of location and the lack of a crossover cable. The connection speed is limited by the Network adapter on the PS2, I currently get about 2.13 Mb/s, computer to computer I get about 23 Mb/s.
