    Hi there!
I got a broken ps2 unit with a replaced ba and a fuxored laser that can only read cds.
Installed Matrix Infinity on it, and shoved in a HDD to boot from it in DEV2 mode.
BUT I noticed that the cooler is spinning way too fast when the ps2 starts the hd (the ps2 unit was JUST powered on and sounds like it was WAY too hot, but it isn't). Anyone know how to fix it or if it's common?
The PS2 model is 50001 with datacode 3D.
My 1st unit, also modded with matrix, fully working, 50001, datacode 3C doesn't to that when I use the same network adapter/hdd.

Sorry for my poor english, and any help will be appreciated.

It's the expected behaviour, and yes, with older models the noise is annoying...

    It's a v10 board
    I wouldn't call it "old"
Also, I tried the same network adapter, same hd in another PS2, also v10.. cooler was normal.. I'm THAT luck? heh

    Thank you for your reply

Heh.. I got tired of that noise and added a 1k trimpot in the cooler and set it to 45 ohms
Voila noise! Now it works like there was no hd attached.
For those who cares.. the PS2 can work for about 1:30 hour to get EXTREMELLY HOT *without* the cooler.
So, here's the hint if anyonelse is bugged with that noise

uhmm ... about that noise...sorry I have no idea.... but for me I have 3 PS2s (V9,V9, V1) ,and all of them have HDDs installed ...but they are acting normal ......but the only thing that bother me is those HDDs heat up very fast .....

But if you play without hdd then it will be slower than normal too, right?

Yeah, but I never take the hdd apart from it, cause it can't read dvds only cds heh.
But I tought about it.. I setup the trimpot in a way that cooler would spin almost as normal... it's only 12% slower and since the cooler speed vary based in temperature, the PS2 should send more power to the cooler as required. But heck, as I said.. you can play a game for more than 1:30 hour WITHOUT the cooler to overheat the ps2. Talk about a strong machine
Ah, and for those who cares, I put the trimpot down to 35 ohms, not 45 as I said before. Reason: Same noise, more cooling

    Best regards,
    SpkLeader
