confused with booting from hard drive...

ok, have been reading alot post and none of them answer my question(search button)...
this what have:
ps2 version 9
action reply from last year doesn't load from version 9 ps2
and my gamehshark 2 old version work fine on v5 ps2 but not on v7,9,10
i dont have hdloader,or hdadvance..

i do have 4 psx1 to load an exploit...
i do have offical network card and like 5 hard drive useable lol



i use WinHDLIIP to format, and add the image..
and when i add the image i see a setting
with option like this:
"Menu Name"
"compatability mode 1,2,3" what is this for ?
"boot file inside the edit box has this (SCES_666.66)" am i suppost add something here ? i doing a test with ps2os 0.3b bin version


my problem understanding is possilble to boot homebrew or program create by other off the hard drive ?

on the partition of ps2 i see MBR so the mean is bootable... so what am i missing here ?

"menu name" will be the name it will show when you select the game
"compatibility" you shouldnt worry too much about this since it can be set after installation also. its basically modes that will help the game boot correctly.
"SCES_666.66" is the game signature or title. each one has a unique number and you usually should leave this as it is.

so is possible to load right off from the hard drive without any other tool a.k.a hdloader,advance or is not possible yet ? if is possible then what are the step must do in the WinHIIP ?
if the answer no booting from hard drive directly, how come is cant be done ? when i load the ps2 without dvd/cd game and the hard drive turns on and then take few second looks like is going to boot then i see black screen for 5 sec and then send me back the browers and hard drive turns off....

ps2 itself wont boot to anything other than the browser unless cd/dvd ps2 game is put it in. the only way to boot w/o anything inside is dev mode using the right mod chip. as for booting games w/o hdloader from the hdd, its impossible.
