Cannot get PS2 to boot with harddrive in.

First off I have a Magic 3.1 installed in my ps2. I am trying to get a copied version of HDLoader to run but, every time i try to boot it with my harddrive in it gives me the rsod. Everytime I try to boot it without the hd, big surprise, its says it can't see my harddrive. Any help would be awesome.

BTW I have a version 7 ps2 with a magic 3.1, and an official sony harddrive. Thanks in advanced.

Not really sure what you mean, sorry.

EDIT: PS2 Utility disc will boot with the hdd in, its the original.
EDIT 2: I got it to work by inserting the cd after about 2 seconds... Anyone know why this is happeneing?

I'm gunna say because its a Magic 3.1. Try getting a better chip installed.

Hmm is there any other chip that uses the same solder points as the magic 3.1? That would be super! Thanks for responding.

You can try the Magic V. Thats what Ive got and its a beaute! I dont know about the exact same solder points, but they should be pretty close..
