Can you boot the MaxDrive software from HDD?
Can you boot the MaxDrive software from HDD? –
I bought a MaxDrive today, and as I have a HDD and the whole MemCard exploit story, I tried to rip the MaxDrives PS2 software part to my HDD.
First, I tried to copy it using HD Advance, but it can't read the disc and aborts after a while.
Then, I tried to generate an ISO image of the disc, but it seems to have bad sectors to keep you from copying it. Anyway, I found a way to make an ISO, transferred it to my HDD and booted it up. Unfortunately it only presented me a black screen.
After that, I tried to make a bootable ELF file using the usual tricks. I placed it on my MemCard, but again, everything I saw was black.
Now I hooked my PS2 HDD up to my PC and tried WinHIIP, and suprisingly it was able to read the disc flawlessly and copied it onto my HDD in little time. But as you can probably guess by now, the only thing I got was a black screen.
Do you have any idea how to get the MaxDrive software running from the PS2s HDD? I invested a lot of work into getting my PS2 to boot and play games without opening the tray to change discs, and now it's nuked by the MaxDrive Software.
You need to hack it so it doesn't look for a disc in the drive.
i have it running from hdloader. all u have to do is copy all the files to your pc, and make a copy of the big.dat file and rename it to big2.dat. make an iso, then install to hdloader. the only prob i have is if you use the hdloader.elf, the media player has a loud hum. but if u use the hdloader disc, it runs fine
First, I wanna thank you guys for your help.
I had a try, but unfortunately I didn't succeed. Here's what I did:
I tried to copy the files from the original disc to my PC. Unfortunately I get a "cannot copy" error message due to the bad sectors on the CD. So, I extracted the ISO image I made yesterday to the PC and copied the "BIG.DAT" over the "big2.dat". So, I had two files: one called "BIG.DAT" and one called "big2.dat", both identical with the "BIG.DAT". Was this step correct?
Anyway, I made an ISO of it and copied it to my PS2 HDD, but again I got a blackscreen. I'm not entierly sure if I made everything right, would you be so kind to give me exact instructions on how to do this?
i had the same prob with this some time ago, i did however find an iso online of the maxdrive software and was able to put it in the hdd without a BSOD. it does take a minute to load and i dont know why, but the one thing i do get is a loop since when i try to play a game it does read the hdd and i cant get out untill i reset the system. if i change the bigdat file to bigdat2 would that make it possible to stop the looping?
Any help on how to get the MaxDrive software onto the HDD?
How did you rebuild the iso? Did you just use a normal burning prog or did you use CDGENPS2? That might help but I'm no expert
Sorry for bringing this up again, but I still didn't succeed to put the MaxDrive software on my HDD. Can anybody who did this please explain how he did that?
