  1. #1 Question Can I use a Japanese fat ps2 with a memory card exploit/hdadvance to play off the HDD

My question is complicated I suppose. I am a noob to this whole HDloader HDadvance scene, but I want to play games off the HDD to cut down on load times. Anyways, I'm searching for a ps2 on ebay and I want to get a Japanese one, I'm just wondering if I'll be able to use my max drive 128mb to trigger the needed software to play off the HDD(I'm not sure what it's called exactly, but I've heard of a way to load something onto my memory card using the max drive and then be able to play games off the HDD).

I'm sorry I don't know all the lingo yet, I'm sure someone has to know what I'm trying to describe. Anyways, here's the stuff I have, someone please tell me if this is all I need to start playing games off the HDD. I think I also need a usb to IDE cord of some sort though...But for now, here's what I have so far:

planning on getting a Japanese fat ps2
    network adapter (US)
    max drive 128mb
    sony brand 8mb memory card
maxtor HDD 20gb or 30gb - from older computers
laptop with 1gb ram 30 gb HDD

so what else do I need?

Please let me know asap, thanks!

I suppose you are talking about the BxDATA exploit. You need a Playstation (not PS2) pressed (not backup) disc too.

Don't know if you can use an US network adapter with a japanese PS2, and IIRC, the exploit doesn't work on the first japanese PS2 model, better if you ask or search in the other forum section: http://psx-scene.com/forums/swapmod-nomod-exploit-discussion/

Edit: seems the network adapter are region-less (=

Hi there,...I suppose you'd know likewise..not a lot of HDD's below 40GB would work on the net adaptor...so you might want to shell out on a bigger 120 gb hdd if you have a number of games you want to play on the hdd...and depending on the model of the ps2...(japanese models are great btw)...the "exploit" (triggering the installed program on the mc to load hdloader) may/may not work...read through the forums to know more...and post the results of what happened...its a simple matter of trial and error...cheers!

The earliest ones on't do hdloader because they have a pcmcia slot in back instead of the standard dev9

the LATEST fat jps2s have the exploit patched and it will not work.

all others, except maybe jp v2s should work.
