I have my ps2 hooked up to my tv with component cables. When i load Jak and Daxter from my HDD it works perfectly when the ps2 is set on Full or 4:3 mode, but when i set it to 16:9 and load the game the screen goes black and stays that way.

I dont have any other games installed at the moment, so it may just be a Jak issue, but i'd like to play it in 16:9 seeing as the game scales to 16:9.

Any idea what my problem might be?

Is your TV widescreen? If yes, does it 'auto-scale'? If no, then you shouldnt use that mode.

There are several things to look at:
    - the TV's ability to scale, if its auto or you have to configure it manually
    - the cable itself, if its of good quality to support the signals
    - the game's configuration settings, if it has them for 16:9/4:3
    - the PS2's setting for Full/4:3/16:9

If all those settings are available, then perhaps using all of them set to 16:9 is causing the problem, i dont know if you need to set each device to 16:9 or not, as i dont have that game, but perhaps one is conflicting with another.....just an idea.

I tested it out a little more today and i think HDL just doesnt like 16:9 for some reason.
I installed a few more games and tried 16:9 mode on Ratchet and Clank and ICO, both of which resulted in a black screen. Im pretty sure HDL is causing the problem somehow because when the games boot in "4:3" or "Full" mode my tv shows the little connection dialog window like it thinks the ps2 disconnected or something, but in 16:9 it just goes to a blank screen and does nothing, so its not getting to the part where it actually loads the game.

My tv will scale the 4:3 to 16:9 but it looks like hell and i was hoping the ps2 could make it look a little better by running in 16:9 to start with.

HDLoader don't have any problem with 16:9, this is a
fault from your tv, i played forever all the games in
16:9 when the game supports it, and never i have any
    problem.

    Regards.
