Am I the only one who can't get MGS2: Substance to work? I've searched the forums without much luck. I've created the image with DVDDecrypter and I've tried uploading with both the latest versions of WinHIIP and HDL_Dump. When I try to load the game in HDLoader 0.7c, the screen flashes as if it starts to load, and then nothing. Is there some sort of option in the menu I should be enabling or is there something I missed?

I don't have the game myself, but if i'm correct it's dvd9 so you have to flatten that first. After that it should work. Here's a tutorial for it flatten dvd9

You must be doing something bad, or the PS2 is having issues loading the game from the hard drive.

You don't need to flatten the game at all, so don't listen to what anyone else says.

However, over at ps2hd there was a "new" version of HDLoader v0.7c released, the one with the DMA0 fix. I think maybe that's the one that runs the game without issues (minus the Skateboarding not working).

But I ripped the game from the disc with DVD Decrypter, loaded on via WinHIIP, and it runs great without any modes enabled.

I don't trust HDL_Dump one bit. I've heard too many problems with it, how it can screw up your drive and such.

I have the same problem either.
It crashes after I start a new game. There is a text, something like " this story is fictional .. " and then.., as havok978 says, nothing.
is there a possiblity I could give a try ?

When you apply the DVD9 patch, you need to set the flag to the new compatibility patch. The God of War flag will not work with this game.

What is the size of the ISO you are using?

Sounds to me like you may be using one of the ripped ISO's that have the main game removed and just contain the VR missions and bonus features.

Most of the group releases are split into 2 ISO's, one for the full game and one for the other features.

The full DVD9 ISO should be over 5gb in size.
