    Hello,
I really want to knwo why there is only a 6in limit on the length of the HDD's IDE cable. I know that if it is longer, it reads that the HDD needs to be formatted. Is there anyway atound it. Thanks for the information on the topic HELLTICK.

as with any cables there is resistance in the wire inside, this causes the voltage on the wire or ide cable for example to drop, if this happens a voltage signal going to the hd or the pc might get interpreted as a different signal for example a "1" might get interpreted as a "0", and what ever data is being transfered will probably become corrupt. This is my best guess as to why the cables don't exceed 6".

I wonder how hard it would be to make a buffer/booster for the IDE cable.... using non-inverting buffers could allow one to reach the 18" limit.... powering this off of the Molex power adapter might be acceptable....

Anyone know if someone already manufactures something like this?
    PS3 Slim 320GB
    PS2 v11 exploit w/300GB Maxtor
    PS2 v10 exploit w/80GB Samsung - Network Games
    PS2 v10 exploit w/60GB Samsung - Network Games

mine is longer than 6" and no problems here... i'm using like a 4" female to female extension, then using a full length dual drive ide cable to go from the extension to my external case.... maybe it's certain drives...
