300GB HDD, effectively using one
I've got noobish questions about HDD installation.
Here is the breakdown of my situation/dilema:
I have a v4 PS2 with a DMS4 Pro SE chip installed (not by me) flashed with Toxic 1.4 bios. It works great and plays my backups beautifully! Also, I also have a brand new, still in package, network adapter. I want to get a Seagate HDD (about 300gb) installed to keep the DVD rom drive usagedown to a minimum along with easier game/file management with faster loading times.
There are some things that I've researched yet am having confusing times putting it all together.
The person whom installed the DMS4 chip told me not to load the Toxic OS on the chip due to too many problems(i.e. black screen, no video and/or video problems, no sound, etc.), basically a crash.
So, now how do I get this HDD up and running along with getting my games installed to it?
These are the questions I'm having regarding HDD installation:
1)How do I install a 300GB HDD and have more than 127GB available storage using HDL?
2)Is HDL a game launcher/mangaing program? Do I use HDL from a memory card or the HDD?
3)What is a dev mode? I believe my modchip supports it.
4)I've read Winhiip is the best for installing games to HDD. Do I have to put the HDD I'm going to
use inside my computer tower or can I plug into the LAN port on the network adapter (or even
4a)Is HDL Dump or HDL Dumb a better program?
5)I've read some aboat compatibility issues and games. Is HDL .7e a patch or a whole new loader? Do I just
burn it to a cd and run it from there?
6)Why is Xbox modding so much more simple?
7)If there is a noobie modding tutorial somewhere on this forum, could somebody please point me towards it?
I don't know if I'm more lost or confused. I've done a lot of searching yet I'm having a hard time choosing
on what to do. And then after I choose what to do, how to do it. A "Beginning to End" tutorial would help me
out BIG TIME!
Sorry guys, I've been spoiled by xbox-scene.com and now I have so much information from this forum, I feel
like a blubbering idiot.
Thank you for your attention.
Making sense of it all...
Hey guys, thanks for the input. I'll just do more searching and researching on HDD's and homebrew apps so I can understand them better.
When I remember back, I had a lot of questions regarding xbox modding. Now it just seems common sense to me.
Therefore, it is now time I go and eat, breath, sleep PS2 modding forums and sites. Yes, eventually, it will become common sense to me. (but I will most likely have more questions for the masters along the way! :D )
