    k this is what happened

i sold my computer motherboard/case to my friend for 130, with a dvd drive and a surround sound card... so i went to eb games a few days later to buy a used ps2 because of this whole HD loader, i havnt read much but i go tthe gist of it... like only ps2 games, no games on burned dvds unless mod chiped ect.
so i go to this guy whos been doing modding for 11 years he inspected it before i went with a chip (when i bought it used, it was a version 4) he said that the laser was going to die soon because of some clicking noise.. so i was like, ok. he told me to go back to ebgames and see if i can get another used one or pay like the remainder for a new one. when i bought the used one i traded in some games to get the network adapter (40 bucks ) anyway i had waranty on the uses ps2 and the guy immidienty went to the back of the store pulled out a version 10, (which he said the weak laser problem was fixed by sony) out of a new box and controller and power plug and put it in the used box... so basicly i got version 10 ps2 for 119.
now my qustion is with a modded ps2 (messiah) can i use a 12 gb hard drive that i pulled out of a broken down Imac (imac stuff still on HD,) and if so does HD loader have a format tool i can use? and one more qustion. my friend burned me a copy of HDloader but he said it was labeled as a free version? are their any diffrences from this free version and the actual HD Loader?
    Thanks

12GB would probably work (my 20GB works), but the system partitions will occupy something like 3GB, and, the most important - the HDD *should fit* the network adapter and the empty space Sony left for the HDD itself.

I would use a 12gb as a tempory drive or for testing then upgrde to a bigger drive soon
The free version is identical to the original (they just removed a few copy protection routines) and it will automatically ask you if you want to format when you start it up (if it detects the hd)

My 20GB maxtor works fine, so I think 12GB would also work.

I've deleted all default partitions but "__mbr" and so far everything works fine. I saved about 2Gigs, BTW.

Go to ps2drives.x-pec.com/ and see if your drive has been tested. But even if it is tested as not working, sometimes it will, sometimes it won't. Kind of a crapshoot.
